Another opportunity for those who can't make it (or even those who can), is to use Code for DC's OurDCschools.org app. One advantage to providing feedback about changes this way is that your responses will be shared, verbatim, back with the community for use in advocating for/against proposals.

The data will be anonymized to protect your privacy.

Disclaimer: I built the thing.
Thanks for the s/o. Just a quick note: it's www.ourdcschools.org!
We're trying our best to identify and remove any inconsistencies with EBIS. Through whatever means EBIS determines that an address is somewhere, it has the final say, so we have to go along with it. If you spot an inconsistency, it would be hugely helpful if you could send me an email with your address so I can work to correct: chris@ourdcschools.org

As for the Shaw address, yes, in some cases where a boundary corresponds to a closed school, but the in-boundary rights of those students are inconsistent, I've opted to point folks to EBIS to avoid giving incorrect information. There are a handful of such boundaries that I can't give answers for, but I assure you, they're not concentrated in any particular area.

You can see the two sides of the coin here: say something wrong vs. avoid saying something as it might be wrong. Trying to avoid both outcomes to the extent possible, but erring on the side of the latter. Appreciate folks flagging issues where they see them, and we'll improve the answers piece by piece.
The mark of a good idea. The app is community-grown, but if folks are going to help promote it, I can't fault them for that.
If you could share your address with me by email for testing purposes, that'd be very helpful. Thanks!

If anyone was experiencing an issue where clicking the "Get Started" button would do nothing, please give us another go. Just pushed a fix that should unbreak a number of addresses that weren't working before.

I had forgotten I wrote that! I was wondering how so many people were on the same page about emailing me to request the data when available (not that I mind!).

We'll be posting anonymized data on opendatadc.org. We currently anticipate doing this on about a weekly basis, so you can check back there on Sunday or Monday for the first release.

We'll also be sending out updates and maybe discussing what to do with the data on the code-for-dc-edu Google Group. You can subscribe to that here:

The closest middle school calculations are mine, so all blame is mine. Definitely an area of complexity. I'll work on fixing O-A's multiple campus issue. Is anyone aware of any school or areas with similar issues? (More common issue with charters, but they're not included here.)
Good point. The data set does not allow that level of granularity at this time, but I will follow up with OSSE to see if it's possible to get new numbers that would show this.
Re: loading issues: I'm sorry it didn't work for you. It could very well not be your browser. There's rather a lot of data that needs to be downloaded to make all of the calculations work, and so it could just be taking a while. I'm going to work on improving our performance, as well as on better indicating what's happening when we're downloading data, in the very near future.
Re: the new Brookland MS; I will ask the question of DME. You're probably right, as the documents simply list it as "Brookland MS." Not to get too in the weeds, but these feeder pattern documents did not contain school codes, which can lead to matching errors like this. Thank you for flagging.

To my knowledge, the charter in the Burroughs/Bunker Hill choice set (Choice Set O, for those looking at the handouts) has not been specified in any document that I have seen.
I would agree on the importance of offering this information in multiple languages. And I know it's frustrating we're not there. If there is a bilingual parent adept at translation who could help us here, please reach out to me. At Code for DC, our long-term education project was built from day one to work in multiple languages; the short timeframe on which I needed to turn this project around, as well as the fact that the Advisory Committee's descriptions and examples are only in English, led to this project being only available in one language.

Re: CHEC and Cardozo not appearing in your nearest middle schools, it appears there was a bug that should now be fixed.
Ah, yes. By default, the school code column (C) is hidden. Unhide that, and you'll see Friendship Chamberlain's school code. This column is what we do our matching on.
No guesswork involved. Friendship Chamberlain was indicated as the charter in question on this spreadsheet from DME: http://dme.dc.gov/sites/default/files/dc/sites/dme/publication/attachments/Copy%20of%20Example%20A-Proposed%20Choice%20Sets_4%2011%2014_0.xlsx

This being said, it's probably not more than a preliminary notion, particularly as the print materials simply refer to it as an anonymous charter.

Anonymous three posts up, if you continue to have difficulties, shoot me an email at chris@ourdcschools.org.
Hi -

I'm the guy who built the app, so I can note how we expect the feedback will be used:

* It'll be shared back to DME and DCPS
* It'll be analyzed by the data-heads in our group (Code for DC), and we'll probably create some visualizations or posts talking about the patterns we're seeing
* It'll be shared with community groups so they can use it to advocate for their positions

Can't really get any more specific until we get lots of feedback, so if you've got five minutes, take it for a spin:
