vet recommendation (not Friendship)

Anonymous
Took my dog to Friendship yesterday, which is pretty close to my house. The vet was very nice and informative when I finally got in, but that place is incredibly disorganized. After the appointment, it took an HOUR before I was fully checked out with the correct medication. They are also incredibly expensive. And, during my wait in the garage, they wheeled 2 sleeping dogs with IVs on stretchers through the garage; that just seems unsanitary and unnecessary. I think I'd lose my marbles if I saw my dog like that. (Maybe there is some logical explanation, but ... I just don't know.)

Anyway. I don't think I'm terribly picky or cheap, but our old, now-retired vet was amazing so may be a pretty hard act to follow. Who would you recommend? I have both cats and dogs, two of whom need pretty regular medical attention. We live in NW, but will travel for a great vet! Thanks!

Sorry Friendship is amazing. Weird that you are judging them for some of the things you listed. They are an animal hospital. And yeah they are slammed right now like most vets but I find the care is worth it.

I have loved every vet I have met with at Dupont Vet Clinic and haven't had any issues with scheduling/billing/wait times.

Dr. Teich at the District Veterinary Hospital is incredible.

If I had an urgent need, I would absolutely go back. But for non-emergency care, it was just too busy and really took hours from my day. I'd prefer a smaller practice.

I agree about Dr. Teich. I used to see him at City Paws and would have totally followed him to District Vet if I had a car. City Paws is just too convenient since it's walkable.

We love Friendship, which we’ve spent a lot of time at since our dog has had cancer twice. But our regular vet is Kenwood Animal Hospital which is also great.

I really like Lynn Animal Hospital in Hyattsville. Great vets, they don’t try to push extra tests, and once you cross into PG, it’s an automatic 30% discount. We’ve been with them for almost a decade and a total of 6 pets.

Dr Wesson at Boyd’s veterinarian resort in North Bethesda is amazing. Highly recommended

Not everyone is made of money.

Your experience is typical for Friendship which is why lots of people go once and NEVER again.

We love Bradley Hills in Bethesda.

Ugh, Friendship is always so busy and extremely expensive.

We like Kenwood Animal Hospital, but they are pricey too, and canal Clinic, which is near the Norwood School in Potomac but is really great.

I take my cat to Adams Morgan Animal Hospital. They are attentive and kind.

I have had the same frustrations with Friendship, but when you have a serious medical need (especially at odd hours), they are the best place to go. It is the equivalent of a busy teaching hospital for pets -- I have had those ridiculous waits and swore I wouldn't go back.

We go to Palisades Vet on MacArthur for easy quick visits, but return to Friendship for more complex issues.

I have gone to Friendship during the pandemic and had to wait in the garage. One time I was standing out of my car just pacing and they were wheeling a dog across the garage -- and I saw they were bringing the dog over to a curtained-off area where someone was waiting, quietly crying. I quickly got back in my car and reset my own impatience with my day.
I do applaud them for finding a way to allow people to be with their pets during the pandemic to say good bye.
