Falls church son kills and buried father in backyard

This is definitely a creepy case.

The body of a 78-year-old man was discovered buried in a shallow grave in the backyard of his Falls Church home Wednesday and his son has been charged with murder in connection with his slaying, Fairfax County police said.

Investigators uncovered the remains of Truman Nguyen in the 3300 block of Nevius Street, police said. Philip Nguyen, 19, who lived at the same address, was arrested in the case and is being held at the Fairfax County jail.

Interesting that they’re using the ‘Covid made me do it defense’.

Fairfax County Police Chief Kevin Davis said the slaying was one of four cases this year in which a son has slain a parent or sibling. Davis said it could be the result of the coronavirus pandemic putting stress on families.

Hmm police say they were regulars at the house. The son is charged with second-degree murder.

Police say they have responded to the Nguyens' house several time for arguments. Detectives are now investigating a motive in this case.

This is the second Asian couple I’ve seen where the parents had their kids in their mid-to-late 50s clearly to help take care of them as they age.

Yes, he had him at 59. Looks like donor sperm if you ask me.

Another article says an older couple lived with the teenager. Presumably his mother. I wonder how old she is and if she’s still alive?

If I knew I was conceived to be someone’s unpaid long-term CNA I’d be pretty pissed off too. There are siblings of disabled kids who feel the exact same way.

What would second-degree murder entail? You hit them with a car but didn't mean it?

Update - the mom is younger than the dad and she is the one who filed a missing persons report saying she didn't know where he is. She was living in the home at the time.

"A second-degree murder refers to the unpremeditated, but intentional killing of another person." It is less serious of a charge than first-degree murder, but more serious than manslaughter. Usually a crime of passion/flash of anger situation, not a planned course of action to kill. There is no premeditation to kill the decision is made in the moment; or there is an intent to inflict serious harm, not kill, but the perp knows or is indifferent to the possibility of death, and the victim dies; and felony murder is also second degree in some states (first in others).

Ahh okay it was done in an act of anger rather than planning. Got it.

I saw the missing person notice on next door. So sad.

I feel sad for the kid. Neighbors say he was in a local college and of course with dorms closed - forced to live and go to classes at home his first year in school. With the way 2020 turned out he would have spent every day with his father who he is said to have had constant fights with.

Covid wasn't a picnic for everyone - even if you were perfectly healthy.

Agree, we need to remember our humanity. COVID has been incredibly stressful for many ppl. I often think of the abused wife’s and kids holed up with their abusers. Let’s try to be kinder.

What? We don't know that the kid was abused or if it was self defense. Knock it off.
