| Parents, don’t do u-turns in the lot. If you can’t wait to turn in the space at the end, get your kids early or have them walk to meet you somewhere else. |
|
Better yet, don't use it at all.
This problem never goes away OP. |
| Agreed. Parents should not be in the driveway or lot at all. |
This year is egregious so far because both the 6th and 7th grade parents are doing it. Hopefully next week will be better as people make their kids walk/use public. |
| 6th grade parent here and I'm just shocked anyone wants to hassle with that parking lot anyway. |
|
I know every family who is driving up the drive is a special case - but please just follow the line.
If you can't do it for all the other children around - please do it for the teachers. Following the process gets everyone collectively out quicker. Including the teachers! I was chatting with one who said it is taking them over 30 minutes just to get out of the parking lot. If you can't do something for the other families - please do it for the teachers! |
| I set a meeting spot with my kid about a 5 min walk away. Major headache saver. |

This problem is legendary and has gone on for years. I had a good chuckle today at SJC when waiting on 27th for pickup. There is a crosswalk there I was parked near when the kids were coming out. Traffic was terrible on Utah and kids were in the crosswalk. A car literally backed up into the crosswalk and flipped a Uturn in the crosswalk with kids IN the crosswalk. Big Deal magnet on the car. I was only surprised they didn't have MD plates. So typical.
And no, was not picking up kid at SJC. Just irritated by the traffic. |
Yes, this is the biggest mystery. There is no way in heck I'm going near that parking lot in my car. My middle schooler has legs. When she needs a ride, we drop-off and pick-up 2 blocks away. It is so much easier. |
Thank you. It’s making some of us late to go get our littles. |
| It’s almost as if we should be promoting walkable, neighborhood schools. |
| Yes to each their own, but it’s not the end of the world like most like to indicate on this board. Many many kids don’t even go to their neighborhood school so there’s that. |
If I could direct traffic and let you out, I would. Signed - Parent of a child who avoids the parking lot at all costs |
| They put cones out but parents are dumb and still doing 50-point u-turns risking lives instead of going down to the end and circling back (which is way easier and faster) |
| For those of us whose kids are new to Deal, where are some good places a few blocks away to drop off/pick up, in order to stay away from the parking lot? |
