DH wants one and I like the other. Picking a name for this child has been absolute hell and I'd prefer not to start over again.
If we go with Eliza her middle name will be Claire or Jane. Scarlett middle names are Anne or Grace. |
| I like Scarlett Jane |
Would Eliza be Elizabeth, nn Eliza? Woule you call h err Eliza Jane? I like Eliza better than Scarlett. But Claire is also a nice first name. Claire Elizabeth? |
Seems pretty clear from the thread title and the bolded sentence that Eliza would be a first name. |
Thanks for playing pp! Your comments added so much. |
Quit playing. I get annoyed with the nickname police. Eliza is a name. It doesn't need to be a nickname for Elizabeth. The OP gave ELiza as a choice for a first name, so no you were not confused. |
Move along Karen |
Ps. I never said I was confused. Just asking a simple question is hardly nn police |

Scarlett sounds harsh and trashy (harlot).
Eliza Jane…wasn’t that a character on Little House on the Prairie? It sounds very old fashioned in a Puritan sort of way. I’d go with Elizabeth and maybe try Eliza as a NN. |
| Eliza |
| There's an old song about Oh, Eliza! Little Liza Jane! Nevertheless, I like it a lot better than Scarlett. |
| Scarlett Eliza |

I like Eliza.
The first thing that comes to mind when I hear Scarlet is the Scarlet Letter. Great novel but something is want my daughter associated with. At the same time I’m also aware that Scarlet is popular among ultra conservative Christians because of the biblical reference. Also not an association I would want for my child. |

If you pick Eliza, don't go with Jane as a middle name! Nina Simone makes it sound good, but other little kids won't!

How about Eliza Grace?
Scarlett will be associated with Gone With the Wind for many people. That’s not something I, personally, would want a kid to have to repeatedly deal with. And “Little Liza Jane” might also lead to teasing. |
