It is happening in Kentucky and elsewhere. This is awful.

| How ridiculous they do not have a plan for online learning. Total incompetence. |
| There will at most be short term closures (as these schools are doing). |
| Shutting down for the rest of the week. Wow, how will they ever come back from that? |
Yes, this. And they will be made up and will somewhat screw with our vacation plans but who cares about our summer plans! There isn’t money available to pay parents who have to miss work due to school closures. It’s been 18 months of unemployment payments. |
|
The Governor will not shut down schools again. I think he made that clear. He will have individual Boards make that decision since he was unable to force them to re-open last year. I think the frustration of not having the authority to order them open was more than what closing them was worth.
The districts can do short term closures as needed. |
| Let's remember that we were still under an emergency order when schools opened for hybrid learning in the spring. |
|
Probabilities for school closures are going up by the day, but politicians will never, ever, give the order to close schools, because it's suicidal. What will happen is that schools will close piecemeal when they have too many students out and not enough teachers. Then the Governor will be able to say that *he kept schools open*. |
But they’ll open back up. The era of perma DL-for-all is over. |
| Yes COVID is evil. I’m shocked how sick breakthrough cases are getting. |
Having a plan is one thing. Having the resources to execute a viable plan is another. Some states have largely rural populations scattered over tiny, underfunded districts. Can’t mitigate. Can’t do virtual. I’m sure teachers have been a voice crying in the wilderness for months. |
Well 2 weeks to flatten the curve did turn into 18 months of school disruption. |
Correct. It's all about optics. Schools will be Delta petri dishes, because no one wants to go into quarantine, so no one will test unless their symptoms are so dire they need hospitalization, so kids will all be sick with "something other than Delta", and then a lot of adults (vaccinated or unvaccinated) will be hospitalized with Covid, and some will die. But schools were kept open, so please vote for me. |
Yes, the optics of 'education is good. kids belong in school' The fear-mongering has lost its power; parents know. they know its safe for kids. they know virtual was a disaster. and now, the decision makers know that the parents know. there will be no virtual |
