We got a couple extra days off before the holidays when rates were really high and a week of "virtual" in January, but for the most part if administrators commit to in-person they are going to stick with it. For individual schools, it's a little different because we did have schools close for a few days to a week when they ran out of unquarantined teachers.

This was our experience in a maryland catholic school. We were out around the holidays because our cases in the area were spiking, but then back after New Year. I will take an extra long winter break compared to being virtual the entire year.

In Michigan, our public school was also open most of the year. Only closed in November/December.

How many kid funerals did you attend?

Yes, this. And they will be made up and will somewhat screw with our vacation plans but who cares about our summer plans!
There isn’t money available to pay parents who have to miss work due to school closures. It’s been 18 months of unemployment payments.

You take away part of spring break or summer break I guarantee the mcps parents will be out in force with pitchforks.

And don't forget there will no longer be snow days

Zero.
Catholic school here open all year in-person with masks. Zero deaths. Small amount of covid19 cases which matched the community case rate.
What is your point?
If there were kid coffins lining the streets right now, I would hope that parents wouldn't need an official closing to keep their kids home.

They won't close again on a state level because they can't be ordered back open. We don't need a virtual plan as a backup since it is really obvious that most kids learned minimal amount of content home anyway.

Enough already. Delta is surging. Fact. It's the current variant. The next one will be here soon enough. We need to keep putting our masks on and moving forward. Put your energy and support into updated vaccines and boosters which will match the next variant (or take anxiety meds).

Schools are open. Life is moving on. Sadly, the doomsday losers will need to find something else to lure others to their sinking ship of giving up. No school system is closing. Closing schools last year was a waste of time are harmed every child. Get vaccinated ASAP.

For the people in the back, the entire school districts are not closing again in Maryland.

The governor will not take the political hit of closing schools when it was clear he had no way to open them when he felt strongly they should open for in-person learning.

If your individual school has an outbreak, they can close one school for cleaning. If the districts had opened when appropriate last year or even showed some sort of good faith effort planning re-openings as the private schools did, maybe the governor would have closed them again for high covid rates.

It's not happening again.
