A majority of the DC Council asked the Mayor and Chancellor to require adult vaccination in schools

This is important. 8 Council members is a majority + 1. They can do this.

Good. Can’t believe this is even a question.

And daycares. Can’t believe it’s not required in daycares yet.

Our daycare admitted that 90% of caregivers are vaccinated. They are forcing the remaining 10% to do offsite weekly testing on their own time off.

I was a bit flabbergasted that it’s not a requirement. The mayor is hesitating on this because so much of her base in Wards 7 & 8 are unvaccinated and the mayoral primary is next spring.

Yes, this is horrible.

The daycare thing really gets me! So many kids/babies under 2. It should’ve been a requirement in the spring as vaccines became widely available.

Then she should be interested in protecting their health.

why didn’t they just … pass a law?

it is insane that all teachers aren't required to get vaccinated. the only reasons people have for not getting vaccinated in 99 percent of cases are extremely stupid reasons. we should not be coddling anti-vaxxers and their nutty theories.

the only way this pandemic is ever going to end is if people get vaccinated.

even more insane that reps from Wards 5, 7 and 8 are not on board. How they can be anti-vax and then likely turn around and decry “systemic racism” and “social determinants of health” is beyond belief.

+1 vaccine mandates work. My friend is a pharmacist and she’s seeing a ton of unvaxxed now that it’s required. They grumble and talk about the unfounded reasons they have for being scared of the vaccine, but they’re getting it done.

The vaccination rates in wards 7 and 8 are a joke. Just 25 percent of adults in Ward 8 are vaccinated. It's 31 percent in Ward 7.

It’s more likely that she was awaiting full approval of the vaccine and now had to negotiate with the various unions.
