A majority of the DC Council asked the Mayor and Chancellor to require adult vaccination in schools

the only way this pandemic is ever going to end is if people get vaccinated.

even more insane that reps from Wards 5, 7 and 8 are not on board. How they can be anti-vax and then likely turn around and decry “systemic racism” and “social determinants of health” is beyond belief.

I’m vaccinated and live in one of the wards you mentioned. I don’t find it beyond belief that (some) anti-vaccine are connecting to systemic racism - forced sterilization, subpar medical care, etc.

The vaccination rates in wards 7 and 8 are a joke. Just 25 percent of adults in Ward 8 are vaccinated. It's 31 percent in Ward 7.

Are those councilmembers anti-vax? Gray has promoted getting vaccinated. I don't know about the other two.

I know people who don't believe in the mandates but who are vaccinated and definitely are not anti-vax. Where do the councilmembers stand who weren't part of the letter?

I strongly doubt Trayon “Jews control the weather” White is promoting vaccines to his Ward 8 constituents. No surprise that he didn’t sign the letter.

Why not require vaccinations of all students ages 12 and above?

Don’t worry he apologized for saying that.

I have a 12 year old (vaccinated). I like the you idea of course but then you would need virtual for everyone who does not get the vaccine (probably a lot of at risk kids). Hanging a different quarantine regime according to vaccination status for kids would be appropriate (eg an exposed but vaccinated child should come back after showing a negative test result after a few days, an unvaccinayed child could fulfill the longer quarantine as per CDC guidelines).

"having" not "hanging"

Because the FDA hasn’t fully approved it for 12+.

I would support mandatory vax for 16+. It seems like it would be politically bad for Bowser, though, given the strong current of covid vaccine hesitancy in Wards 7 and 8.

Because the FDA explicitly said “safety and efficacy has not been established” for the 12-15 group. You cannot mandate a vaccine in those circumstances

Our daycare admitted that 90% of caregivers are vaccinated. They are forcing the remaining 10% to do offsite weekly testing on their own time off.

I was a bit flabbergasted that it’s not a requirement. The mayor is hesitating on this because so much of her base in Wards 7 & 8 are unvaccinated and the mayoral primary is next spring.

Then she should be interested in protecting their health.

If they die, they cannot vote for her.
