Just like New York City is doing. If coronavirus is serious enough to close schools for a year and a half, it's serious enough to require everyone to get vaccinated.
In NYC, the teachers union supports this, as they should. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/08/23/nyregion/nyc-schools-employee-vaccine-mandate.html |
| Agreed. |
A Vaccine mandate with no testing opt out would require DCPS to negotiate that with the WTU and the other public sector unions. DCPS just agreed to not announce any new polices regarding vaccines without negotiating it first with the WTU.🤷🏾♀️🤷🏾♀️🤷🏾♀️ |
Union member here. I wish they would!! |
| YES! Any teacher too stupid to get the vaccine had no business in the classroom. |
| The Pentagon is requiring all soldiers to get vaccinated. No opt-out for them. |
| The White House is threatening to withhold federal funding from nursing homes that don't get their entire staffs vaxxed. Biden should do the same thing with schools. |
| So are the medical and religious exemptions just jokes then? I don't think you can just choose testing, you need to have a serious reason. Religious one - well, if you're going to lie in front of God that's your deal. Medical: doctor has to approve this. |
Of course. It would be safer for teachers if their colleagues were vaccinated. However, not all of your colleagues possess your common sense so WTU hasn't supported this. |
| Hell, the union could even go in and propose mandatory vaccinations. |
+1 |
| Some teache rs probably need boosters soon |
DC is providing not just medical and religious opt outs but also an “I don’t want to get the vaccine so will instead get weekly testing” opt out |
Oh really? I thought it was only available for valid reasons. That sucks. |
|
I am all for this, but I would also like students (ES b/c unvaxxed) to be tested weekly.
Other school districts are promising this. Why can't we? |
