What is the earliest age that you think “not unusual” when you hear someone is pregnant?

When you hear that a 20 year old is pregnant, you shriek, but when you hear a 30 year old is you of course don’t bat an eye. Assuming the couple is married and can afford to live in their community, what is the earliest age that someone can have a child and not be judged negatively. 26? 28?

24-ish as long as they have a good and stable job. It became 'normal' for me when I hit 30 and everyone and their sister was pregnant.

Funnily enough they all stopped at 2.

OP here. I come from a place where teen pregnancy is still common and my SIL was a parent at 19. But those people still got judged a lot even they it was common (not saying they shouldn’t have been judged).

Late 20s in this area. (My age now!)

I had my child at 26 (married at 25) and people thought I was weird/possibly Mormon or something. It worked well for us, but definitely not the norm in the area.

Now I'm at the age where my peers are getting baby fever and at least getting married.

Depends on where you live. I had DC1 at 25, in the DC area, while in grad school. Strangers don't know your marital, psychological or financial status when they see your youthful looks and bump on the bus and start grumbling about teen mothers. Which is what happened to me. I have never been sneered at and visibly judged by strangers as I was while pregnant at 25 in Silver Spring. It was shocking.

+1 I come from an area where teen pregnancy is common but it's still not celebrated. 26 is the age when the mom's age doesn't factor into my reaction to hearing about a pregnancy - done with college, probably married a year or two, has traveled a bit, settled in a job.

Nobody should be doing that to anyone, even if they find it unusual. Sorry that happened to you (but congrats on looking young!).

24

There are plenty of boring 24 year olds who are married, responsible, down to earth, have functional relationships with friends and loved ones, and are on a gainful, longterm career path.

And there are 32 year olds who have none of those things.

I would judge the 32 year old "shit show" parent more than I would judge the stable 24 year old.

NP. My sister was 26 when she had her first. When the baby was about 2 they were in a grocery store and the guy at the deli said to them, “you and your sister are so cute.”

I was 27 and people thought I was crazy. For me personally 24 seems like the floor.

Younger than 26 and I assume it was unplanned.
