Summer running sucks so hard

My run this morning was supposed to be 2.1 miles straight, and then 1.1 of alternating run/walk minutes. Not much, but it's what I can do right now.

My headphones crapped out after the 2.1. I just said F it and walked home, instead of doing the easier leg of 1.1 intervals with my music on speaker phone.

It felt like a rainforest at 6am this morning.

Agreed. My run was super slow, such a slog.

On the bright side, it tends to start cooling off mid-August so with any luck, this is almost the end of it for the year.

It is so gross right now. I had a migraine so didn’t run at all, but normally that would irritate me and today I was just relieved. Took the trash out at 7:30 am and it was already gross out.

I honestly just take a break from running from about mid-June through August. Give me a 30 degree run any day over this heat and humidity.

This.

I've been doing early bird laps at our local pool and lo, it is glorious. Summer running sucks balls.

I didn’t run this morning because our AC stopped working last night and I didn’t want to sweat all day. Can’t wait for cooler runs!

Yup. I threw up after a 3.5 mile run last week, I am guessing from dehydration. I was signed up for the Cherry Blossom 10 miler in September but am thinking of scaling it down to the 5k because I am having trouble with regular running right now.

I use a running belt and freeze the two water bottles that come with it. As the water melts I pour it on my head. This helps a lot.

It’s also key to start as early as possible, by 6am at the latest.

I sometimes take a cold shower before running on very hot days and run with wet hair. This keeps me cool longer.

You guys, I just remembered that last summer I ran *in a mask*. My neighborhood was insane about masking last year and people would flip out if they saw unmasked runners, so I ran in a mask all last summer. Initially I wore a regular mask and it made me want to die, so then I switched to a neck gaiter. And then there was that bogus story about how neck gaiters create more Covid particle and I had a friend tell me I should mask up again. I think I cried that day.

Anyway, I couldn't bring myself to run today or yesterday because it's so gross, but the memory of running in DC in July in a mask in 2020 just came back to me and I seriously can't believe that happened. We all went crazy last year.

Just walking from my building to the car makes me feel like I'm being waterboarded.

Today is not an outside day and I love the heat. I can’t even bare the idea of even a walk.
