Travel Discussion
| Has anyone been here? We are considering going in November and would love to hear some opinions! Thanks! |
| We have been to T&C three times and LOVE it. We have never stayed at Beaches but can honestly say it is the worst stretch of beach on Grace Bay. It is very thin there and it is packed...like OC on the 4th of July. One of the reasons we love it there is because all accomodations on GB are condo style. Plenty of space for you and the children and a kitchen to make meals if you wish. Beaches definitely does the hard sell to families but I feel like it is just not necesarry in T&C. If you want to do AI a new resort just opened called the Veranda, you may want to look into it. Turks and Caicos is a very safe island; there is really no reason to stay at an AI resort as you should venture off property to the great restaurants and meet the friendly people |
| Are there any particular places on Grace Bay that you could recommend to us? I will be traveling with my DH, our 2 year old son and another couple with their 1 year old son. I am not 100% sold on Beaches as I know its a very small island and mostly involves relaxation!!! We would like a place on the ocean. I think it would probably be cheaper to stay in a condo style place anyway....Beaches is expensive! |
| I was just looking at Beaches T&C too.. and primarily because I was hoping it would be entertaining for our 4 y.o. - that she could get involved in some activities and give us a little quiet time during the day. Opinions on that? |
That is why we were looking at it as well. But if the beach there is jam packed, I will definitely be rethinking it! |
| We have had alot of luck renting places on VRBO for T&C. We have stayed at 3 places there and have liked them all. I do know the West Bay Club is a new resort and is offering some good deals, so you might want to check it out. We have brought our DD to T&C since she was a year old and she is always happy to jsut play on the beach and in the pool; organized activity for kids is really not necessary but I do understand wanting to get a break. Seven Stars, Regent Grand, Royal West Indies and Villa Renaissance are all within walking distance of the majority of the restaurants and shops on Grace Bay if that is important to you. Turks and Caicos Club, Windsong and Coral Gardens are all very close to a great reef for snorkeling. Please let me know if you have questions about specific resorts, I am more than happy to help the best that I can |
Thank you so much! Would it be best to book hotel and airfare together if possible or separately? Would working with a travel agent be best as opposed to expedia? We would ideally like a 2 or 3 bedroom suite for all of us to stay in, but are not totally opposed to separate rooms. The condo style concept is appealing though... |
| I am thinking that a TA is not the way to go here. More than likely a TA will push Beaches on you. Most places have 3 bedroom units available. TripAdvisor has a list of all the places in Providenciales. I would see what interests you; check VRBO or Homeaway and check each resort website to see where you can get the best deal. Then look at Expedia to see if the bundled packages work out better |
| I've been to Beaches and I thought it was pretty decent. We went in mid December and the beach wasn't that crowded at all. And even if it was, you can walk a short way down the beach and it was practically deserted. If you want a break from the kids, they have a kids camp there pretty much all day and they may even have some evening childcare (it has been many years so I can't remember specifics). |

turks and caicos sounds beautiful, but what is there to do there with small kids -- may just be my preference, but while I would LOVE somewhere like T&C, it has seemed to me that beaches like Rehoboth and Cape Cod work better when the kids are small because there are a lot of other diversions and it's not like the kids can really sit on the beach all day - I like having some local museums, the mini-golf, playgrounds, etc...
can someone sell me on T&C? what is there for families with young kids (5 and under) to keep busy? |
| We went to Beaches T&C last February and LOVED it! We were really expecting it to be crowded and cheesy but it was very empty b/c we went the week before a lot of states have their February vacations so it was only 50% occupied. The beach was clean, scarcely populated, and you can walk all the way down Grace Bay in both directions to get away from the resort if you want and it is safe. The kids LOVED the Camp Sesame. DS was 3 1/2 and DD was 1 1/2 at the time. You can drop the kids off anytime between 9am and noon and then between 1pm and 5pm. Then at 6pm they open again for 3 hours so adults can enjoy dinner kids free. We dropped them off a couple of evenings after feeding them dinner and then we would enjoy an adults-only restaurant. The staff is really friendly, great with kids...honestly we were so pleasantly surprised that we are going again! |
| We stayed at the Sands at Grace Bay w/ another family about a month ago. We loved it. Each family had two young kids and they all had a blast at the beach and in the pool...I didn't think they needed anything else. Each family had a 2 BR suite w/ full kitchen, large screened patio and washer/dryer, living room, so it was great. We could make breakfast in the room (dining in T&C is extremely expensive) and even lunch if we were pressed for time before naptime. The hotel has one restaurant which is just OK, but there are many others w/in walking distance, both on the beach and inland. We booked a package on Expedia. I am dying to go back! |
| PP here- just wanted to add that I thought Sands was very family friendly...and they had big buckets of beach toys for the kids that you could check out when you got beach towels. |
If Rehoboth is your thing T&C is not for you. I hate Rehoboth because of the crowds. I dont feel the need to get up at 6am on my vacation and get a spot on the beach. My child is perfectly content playing on the beach and pool all day. Many of the resorts do have playgrounds for the children. Some days we go for an icecream cone in the middle of the day or take a ride on a sailboat. If you need constant action this is not the place for you. This is a place to kick back and relax, walk for miles down one of the worlds best beaches, enjoy great restaurants and beautiful accomodations |
| Not to mention that Rehoboth and the Cape are not options in November |
