They did it! They did it! https://coronavirus.dc.gov/sites/default/files/dc/sites/coronavirus/page_content/attachments/COVID-19_DC_Health_Guidance_For_Schools_Reopening_080621.pdf
Updated guidance to align with CDC guidelines. The whole class does NOT need to quarantine for a positive in the class!!!!! Also loving the explicit statements that inability to cohort, distance, vaccinate, etc are not reasons to close schools. And really really loving the updated guidance on symptoms that trigger Covid rules - a runny nose alone is no longer sufficient, and neither is a fever, chills, nausea, or headache when alone - requires two or more of those. And neither does a lingering cough! Only a NEW or WORSENING cough or loss of smell/taste trigger Covid protocols on their own. We might actually have a normal year! I am bouncing of walls with relief. I feel like a Boulder just got lifted from my shoulders for the first time in 1.5yrs. Omg |
| Hooray! |
| That guidance is DChealth. DCPS hasn’t shared what they will follow yet. |
| Is travel mentioned? I did not see it. |
How can they not follow DC Health? |
|
I'm glad DC health did this as it's probably what DCPS needs to get moving on how they will implement the plan.
Now they can announce their plans for how (if) kids will learn during the 7 - 10 day quarantine period. |
I thought they always followed DC health and that's what people have complained about... Are you always this fun? |
They will. From Ferebee’s email on July 30: “In the coming weeks, we will share an additional update before the start of school to align with new guidance forthcoming from DC Health. This will include more information around student cohorts and quarantine rules for in-person learning.” These are those updates. Presumably, there will be an email from DCPS soon. |

Very confusing that children "should" but not "must" stay home when sick?
Did we not learn anything from all of this - people need to stay home when sick!!!! |
At my age, I ration my excitement where DCPS developments go. |
| I have a serious question. I understand no quarantines for a positive case in class what happens if there are 2 or more positive cases? Does the class continue to come in or do they quarantine? |
| There’s not a snowball’s chance in Hell that it is going to be a normal year. |

| Lordy DCPS’ about face on what’s safe is staggering. I’m trying to be guided by facts not emotion, but I’m much more nervous sending my kid in this fall than I was last January. |
+ a million I sent my kid happily in February but I’m more concerned about now. |
