| What's the downtown area like during COVID? Can we still have fun? |

As an update to this recent thread, we're back to mostly wearing masks indoors |
|
Thank you!
|
| We were just there and the downtown area was depressing. Many, many, many shuttered stores and restaurants. |
Yes, there are places that shuttered during the pandemic, but there are plenty of places to go as well. It's not all boarded up. |
| I live in Charlottesville. Not sure what the PP was saying about everything being shuttered up - not true. Downtown is fully open and thriving. Tons of people out and about shopping, eating, etc. Great weekly events like Fridays After Five and lots of live music. We did lose a few businesses during the pandemic, unfortunately, but the city is doing well. |
| We were there a few weeks ago. Many stores and restaurants were closed by 5:00, so just plan ahead regarding the time of day. We loved the feel of that area; just wish more places were open in the evening and on Monday. |
| yEs the downtown area was nice in June with lots of people, but a lot of restaurants did close by 5 (I thought it was due to it being Sunday). |
|
Also from Charlottesville and there are some new things in the City drawing away from the Downtown Mall area including the new Dairy Food Hall with Star Hill Brewery. Also the area around the former Frank Ix factory is now lively with a huge Saturday Market, live events at Ix park and new eateries and businesses opening up. I think the vibe of the downtown mall area can change at night. Also |
Of course. There are like a million wineries which is perfect for COVID fun. |
| Cville is happening. Especially breweries & wineries. |
Ditto. We went down twice in July and had a great time. Not a lot of masking inside FYI. But so many breweries and wineries with great outdoor spaces. Dairy Market is cute and the ice cream there hit the spot on a hot day! |
This is not a Cville specific thing. Many restaurants everywhere are closed Mondays or close early. |
| Which farmers' market is the best on a Sat. Do you think? |
Go to https://www.marketcentral.org/markets and then walk over to https://www.charlottesville.gov/619/Charlottesville-City-Markets or visa versa (they're only a few blocks apart) FYI it's mostly locals (obviously) and a lot of young families especially at Ix since they're up so early and it's a large area so a lot of space for little kids to run around.
We usually go down and are back home before our teen boys are functioning. |
