We have a worst summer camps thread, but what have you/your kids liked? Please include any info you think might be helpful (ages of kids, Covid protocols, cost, etc.) in choosing camps for next year.

Camp Sonshine. 5 summer going, kid is now 9. All outdoors in the woods, activities depend on age but go karts, ninja course, water slides archery have been huge hits this year. Kids don’t need masks outside but staff do. They have to have masks with them in case of storms they move inside.

My child really enjoyed michuchutren Spanish immersion in Fairfax city. Age 3-5 option for half or full day, age 6-10 full-day only. My child really enjoyed water activities in the afternoon twice a week.

My kids loved Browne. Masks inside but don’t think they always wore them outside. Crafts, swimming, creek walks, ice cream, just all around fun!

One case of Covid but no transmission at camp. Counselors all vaxxed.

Congo has been great, as usual.

Landon was great re: COVID. Careful but didn’t over react. Barrie on the other hand was overboard in shutting the entire camp instead of quarrantining those directly affected. They also seemed so disorganized on which groups should kids should be in. My kid was at first placed into a group with all younger kids and her friend request was completely ignored until the friend’s mom and I loudly complained. Not sure if we’ll be back at Barrie next year. They were so good in 2020 when everything else was shut but disappointed this year.

Washington Sailing Marina for my 8 year old. Such a well-run camp and the kids learn so much. The owner is very responsive to any parent concerns.

This is a fantastic camp.

My kids have also done Congo, Calleva VA, and St. Stephens St Agnes Summertimes this year. All were enjoyed immensely.

After missing it last year, it's been great to get back to calleva. Kids are masked on the bus, unmasked outside, and in cohorts the whole week.

My kid has loved Whitman camp in Darnestown. Just a nice all around experience. The counselors are well supervised and really interact with the kids and the camp does a great job of making everyone feel welcome.

Also enjoyed Butler camp in Darnestown - super affordable and lots of activities.

My 6 year old loved the camp at Redeemer Lutheran Church in McLean. (Camp is not religious). It's good for younger kids. They did some different types of arts and crafts, big water play, special guests. In other years they've apparently done field trips.

Headfirst multisport super fun for the athletic kid. Weekly parent screening email and temp checks. Masks inside. One of the only camps that stayed open last summer (without cases). Bummed my older one is aging out.

They're also liking the Brit Am soccer at Norwood.
