4th grade girl Clothes

Anonymous
What’s a cute brand/store to shop at for back to school clothes for my entering fourth grade niece? And before anyone says anything she is attending a new school, in a new city, and have moved in with us. Anything to make her stand out less and be more comfortable is our goal. Thanks!

Why don’t you ask her?

Hanna Andersson is too "baby" for my 4th grader. She loves Athleta style kids wear now

Is this public school? At my kids’ school in a bethesda, it’s mostly Target, Old Navy, Gap and lands end mixed in (especially for things like jackets). Just avoid anything too dressy or too babyish (cartoon characters other than maybe marvel—there are others that would be not babyish but too hard for a clueless aunt to draw that line). Some girls like colors and patterns, some girls like more dark stuff, it’s all fine. When it doubt, go casual and comfortable.

Yeah that was the first step, so now I’m asking the tribe.

I agree with Athleta for tops. Jeans at Gap/Old Navy. You could take her to Nordstrom Rack fit back to school shopping. They usually have a variety of styles and brands. That way she could make some selections according to her own style.

I suppose it depends on where you live, but my child and her friends aren't wearing anything that is branded or particularly stylish. I suppose some girls prefer athletic wear but mine does not and we buy at pretty common stores like Target, Old Navy, even Carter's (their big kid stuff is actually similar to Primary.com, lots of solids and stripes), and then buy on sale from Primary, Hanna (again, solids and stripes, not the floral stuff), Gap, and Nordstrom.

+1 my 4th grader won’t even wear their colored leggings anymore. She prefers anything from old navy and the tween clothes at Target. Athleta is having a sale in clearance items, so I picked up a cozy hoodie for her bday next week. Athleta is a special gift in our house $$

It’s too cutesy and the cuts are super weird—very wide and short.
