4th grade girl Clothes

In addition to Target and Old Navy, we've had luck with J Crew Factory.

It doesn't matter if you think it's cool, or some similar-aged kid has told you it's in style, or whatever. Kids develop their own sense of style pretty young. I advise buying something different than clothing.

Aunt is raising her, so you suggest tat she goes naked?

Not at all. If she's buying in advance to make the kid feel welcome (which is a great idea!), then I suggest that the OP get her niece's input before making too much of an effort on clothing.

My DDs like Old Navy, Target, Nordstrom Rack, Dillards, and they LOVE getting boxes from Stitch Fix—the prices are reasonable for kids’ clothing. Also Justice, but that’s online only now.

I really hope the Hanna Anderson post was a lame attempt at a joke.

Hanna has plenty of cute solids and tops that aren't babyish. No wonder your daughters are snobby. No way I'd like my kid wear athletic clothes to school.

+1 I also don’t allow athletic clothes. Lame.

What’s wrong with athletic clothes? Soon they will be wearing half shifts and short shorts, althetic shorts and t shirst or jerseys with hoodies are fine!

I have a 9yo rising 4th grader and and older daughter. They wear a lot of Old Navy, Target (more Art class or athletic than Cat & Jack but my 9yo still likes their leggings just fine), Zara, H&M and some Gap and Crew cuts. My 9yo is pretty into clothes and likes to put outfits together, but she’s happy enough with a bunch of relatively simple basics - plain colored shirts in various styles, sweaters/cardigans, leggings and jeans (she still likes dresses but a lot less than a couple of years ago). She’s moved away from graphic tees with cutesy sayings (a shirt with The Beatles on it is still “cool” though, a she’s a big fan), and likes more muted colors now overall. She’ll add “flair” with scarves, jewelry or hair things, and loves to use color. She’s deciding what her “best” colors are with the “help” of her older sister - they both have rather striking coloring and seem to have strong opinions about fashion without being obnoxious or difficult about it.

I emphasize taking pride in how we present ourselves, and we talk about wearing appropriate clothes for the occasion. That doesn't equate expensive clothes. I don't think athletic clothes are appropriate for school or church or lots of other things. Fine for sports or hanging around the house. But that's me and how I was raised, and how I'm raising my child. I'm not spending my time judging yours.

My 9 year old wouldn't wear the graphic tees you linked, she doesn't care for graphic tees (I haven't seen her friends wearing anything as loud as the ones you linked either). She would wear the plain one, though. Like I said earlier - this is very dependent on a kid's personality. OP should take the girl shopping or show her some things online to figure out her preference.

Graphic tees seem to still be big at our school in the later ES grades. Must be highly school dependent. We see a lot of the ones sporting TV brands, food brands, and 90s stuff.

Do NOT by Hanna Andersson for a 4th grader if you are concerned with her being fashionable or fitting in. Same goes for Boden and Tea (although every once in a while you might find a more dress up out from those brands that don't look as babyish). I loved Hanna for my 3 year old, but by 4th grade it is a definite no.

My daughters get clothes from Old Navy, Target, Gap. Target has surprisingly decent and cute things for this age.
Nordstrom or Bloomingdales are good for nicer/more expensive things. H&M or Zara can have some things too, but more hit or miss.

I am pp. I also wanted to say that Tie dye is very "in" right now. Old Navy and Target have some simple tie dye tshirts that aren't too loud- one color of tie dye in blue or pink with some shorts is pretty universal right now.

For our 8 yo we mostly buy from Target, Old Navy and Gap. Avoid Old Navy leggings though (they will look 1 year old after 3 washes). DD likes t-shirts, leggings and athletic wear. For more durable needs like jackets we do Lands End or Eddie Bauer. For something different I mix in H&M and Zara.

And before anyone says anything she is attending a new school, in a new city, and have moved in with us. Anything to make her stand out less and be more comfortable is our goal. Thanks!

What does she like to wear and what is wrong with it that it won't work this year? You could have her attend school and see what she likes by what other kids are wearing.

If you're willing to spend money and she is slim, I would recommend Primary.com - their clothes are very durable and solid and stripes, so they're pretty classic for staples.

Primary has amazing sales and is less expensive than many of the places already listed in this post.

Even on sale, it's more expensive than Target, but it is great quality and long lasting (I have been able to sell everything after my 2nd kid goes through it).
