Just Bought A New, Used Car…..ugh!

I just bought a 2012 Honda Civic from a private party off AutoTrader.

Paid in cash and do not know what to do.

1.) Car is auto transmission and when parked on a steep hill - once I let my foot off the brake, the car rolls backward prior to stepping on the gas.
Yes! While in Drive!!!!
Is this harmful for my transmission? Because I can always put the gear into Park when I stop but when I then move it back to Drive, the transmission shutters hard.

This is a fuel-efficient vehicle & my Sister said the car does this to preserve fuel.
That the torque in the car is just not strong enough.

2.) Car has a sensor in the front passenger seat.
If a man adult occupies the seat, nothing.
But if my thirteen year old skinny niece does the dashboard lights up chiming ⚠️ Airbag Off ⚠️
every three minutes.
I get that this is a huge safety factor because it is letting me know that if a passenger is below a certain weight limit, then it would be dangerous to deploy the airbag.
But it is annoying.

Can anyone tell me if they deal w/this in their cars?

*a regular adult, not a man adult

You bought poorly.

The first one is normal, on a steep hill. The engine doesn’t create enough torque at idle to overcome gravity. It’s not harmful for the transmission. If you’re in a dicey situation like at the top of a hill with a stop sign and a car behind you can use your e brake.

As for number two, that is annoying, but it means she shouldn’t be sitting in the front seat. I would never forgive myself if I got in an accident and my niece went through the windshield when I knew the airbag wouldn’t deploy. There is probably a way to disable the alert chime.

I think this is a joke? 1 is a normal car, 2 is because a child’s weight doesn’t satisfy the front seat censor in any car that has one.

Oh man, OP. You have a normal car.

??????? OP do you also worry when the microwave chimes after it is done?

This happened even in a luxury rental car in San Francisco, with all those steep hills.

Yes, a small/light passenger shouldn’t be in the passenger seat, moron.

Sometimes I get the alert if I put my computer bag/purse/bulky items on the passenger seat. The sensors are doing their job.

You are a complete moron OP. Scary to think you're driving with your lack of intelligence and common sense

1 is normal. My $120k Germany luxury car does the same thing.

2 is also normal. Your DD's weight is just around the limit to trigger the airbag on or off. As she shifts her weight in the seat, it's triggering it. Tell her to sit in the back.

A little harsh aren’t you?

Auto person here. For #1, a few cars have "hill holder" that will apply the brakes when you let up on the gas while on a hill. It was originally developed for manual transmissions. It's increasingly rare now, but I think Subarus still have it.

No. People who are idiots should not be on the road.
