any reason to not induce at 39.5 weeks

Anonymous
I'm not saying anyone SHOULD do this - just thinking through my own situation

I'm due with #3, both my previous 2 went almost 42 weeks before coming on their own. I'm leaning towards inducing #3 at 39.5 weeks to make sure childcare is scheduled for older kids, I'm debating waiting until 40.5 but it seems a bit silly to wait a week when it'll likely still end in induction but greater risk he'll come unplanned.

Any reason to wait a little longer vs go at 39.5?

Have you been induced before? It sucks. Pitocin is the worst. If you can avoid it, I would.

My guess is that with a third pregnancy, your body will jump into gear quickly and you won't need much in the way of pitocin or interventions. I say go for it, especially if it makes child care easier.

I got induced with my first and scheduled induction with my second for the same reason- childcare. I can’t compare birth with and without pitocin because I only have the one with pitocin… but I plan to get an epidural again like last time.

I would absolutely induce at this point, yes. There was a study a few years back that said induction at 39 weeks is a bit safer for mom and baby than waiting. I think it was called the ARRIVE study but I’m not totally sure.

I would definitely plan on an epidural though!!

As someone who has had both experiences, I agree. Although if OP will likely be induced either way, it probably won’t matter.

Better to let your body go into labor on its own.

I've already had two inductions so I say go for it.

I would never eject my baby early unless it was medically necessary. Babies come when they're ready.

Will they even let you schedule inductions for convenience anymore? I didn't think that was done anymore.

If you’re over 35, your doctor will probably recommend inducing around that time.

I went into labor naturally with my first two and was induced with my third. All three labors were very similar. I was actually better rested with my induced labor because with my first my water broke in the middle of the night and with my second I think we went to the hospital at around 3 AM with contractions. My induction was at 6:30 AM, so at least I got almost a whole nights sleep beforehand.

After 39 weeks, do it whenever is easiest for you.

You also can look at your Bishops score to see. The higher the bishops score, the quicker it will work. I was always a 0 at 41 weeks though so that's why I waited (induction was still slow as hell at 41 weeks too)

Gah- my inductions were always at 8pm. Which meant I was in pain all night from contractions and didn't get sleep. I always wished they started in the morning.

I was induced with all 3 of my kids and I don't know what you mean by this? Did you not get epidurals?
