any reason to not induce at 39.5 weeks

Anonymous
I went ahead with an induction at exactly 40 weeks with my third. I was 38. It was my choice because I was getting anxious about being AMA and it had been a terrible pregnancy.

Pitocin started at 8am and I delivered just before 5pm. I did not use any pain medication like the previous deliveries.

The pain was fine. I have a high tolerance. But pushing was horrible. She was OP and pushing her out was so hard. It took over an hour and she bruised my tailbone and I now have pelvic floor issues. My recovery was long and complicated.

I attribute this to her not being ready and in the right position. But it could have been true she never would have been even had I waited.

A small part of me wishes I could have waited and had a more empowering birth. But then I think that’s just silly. There was no guarantee waiting would have given me that.

I have a friend who followed this advice and her baby died at 42 weeks. Had she induced sooner, baby would have lived.

Many practices will let you induce at 39 weeks

As someone who went past 40 weeks with her first two and electively induced the third the day after my due date, I’d go for it. Pitocin didn’t do squat for me, but once we broke my water, it was two hours until the baby was born (and I was only about 3cm dilated). Good luck!
