| My recommendation above for Blue Pencil is for real. I used them for my HS senior. I promise I’m not one of the owners! (It’s a tiny awesome local business that I heard about from.. neighbors and friends in Chevy Chase!). |
| My rec for Moxie is also real. |
| For the parent who used Blue Pencil, which service did you use? thanks. |
| So, you're looking for someone to give your kid the essay idea, and then pretty much write the essay too. Got it. |
Np here. I am also considering hiring an essay consultant for my kid. I did with my older one and let me tell you, they didn’t write a thing. They helped brainstorm ideas, gave the kid deadlines for drafts and revisions, pointed out a few parts where corrections were needed because the essay lost focus or bad grammar or whatever and had the kid revise and revise until it was complete. It was like a 1:1 HS English teacher, and not at all someone writing for them. I just need someone else to be the one fussing at my kid about getting their essay done instead of me. |

| I think it’s an interesting topic of how much assistance is appropriate. Is there any guidance anywhere? In my day, no one read my essay even to proofread and I’m sure it was full of errors. But coming from the DMV, I feel like colleges expect the essays to at least be proofread. And I’m sure they know many kids from this area have assistance from at least their parents. Any thoughts? |

You should not be getting any help other than using grammarly or something for grammar and mechanics. Damn everyone uses the excuse that everyone else is doing it and not doing so will put your child at a disadvantage but that just continues the cycle of b******* and titlement and basically cheating from everyone

This isn’t quite correct Professor. Colleges advise students to get parents and teachers to read over their essays to help edit. So using grammarly doesn’t quite cut it. |
