Trying for 2nd after infertility treatment for #1

Anonymous
We had #1 with an IUI due to male factor. Had originally seen our RE because we were trying for 6 months and I was 37. For a second, should we try at all on our own or just go straight to the RE again? I’ll be 39 when we start trying, but my numbers were all “exceptionally” good at age 37.

Just went through this, got pregnant second month trying with femara but miscarried. My issue is PCOS though and I was able to get it under control with diet and meds before we started trying - for male factor I’d do an another IUI right away. I did quite a bit of research and seems the major consensus is if you needed IUI for the first, most need (or just automatically go to) IUI subsequently,

Go straight to RE. You can try on your own while you get all the things in order with the RE, but don't do 3 or 6 months before going to the RE. Start right away. Especially with male factor.

This is what I'd recommend, also.

Yup agree with this, having been there.

Yeah, sometimes it takes even 2 months to get an appointment, so why not, just start it

Another +1 having been there. Time is of the essence so you're at least going at it from both ends.

I agree with all of this. If she weren’t a concern you might consider trying a while. I was 32 when we sort of half heartedly started trying for a 2nd pregnant. The first took 6 rounds of IVF, and the embryo quantity/quality was so low I was on the path to donor eggs. We had sex just a handful of times, no careful attention to ovulation, and I got pregnant. I was floored. I believe having babies (had twins 1st pregnancy) and breastfeeding changed my hormones to make better eggs or make my uterus more hospitable. Not evidence based, just my gut feeling.

Totally agree.

I did get pregnant naturally with #2 but we had "unexplained infertility" and j was a bit younger.
