| I will be getting a rental car next week when I fly out to visit a friend of mine. My insurance says I am covered like driving my own car except "loss of use" coverage. I thought I read it somewhere that the loss of use is a questionable charge and the car rental companies do not usually fight if you contest it. Wondering I should get it or not. Thoughts? TIA |

Pretty much every add on the rental car companies push is a huge money maker for them, ripoff for you.
The "Full tank of gas" is the worst, but the one you describe sounds bad, too. |
Isn't loss of use for when you can't drive your own car because it's being repaired, like from a collision? Why would you want that for a rental car? |
Ok, I typed that before I understood what that meant - duh. I feel so dumb. I have never had that insurance, but I have also never wrecked a rental car. |
NP. Yes, loss of use is when you can't drive your own car because it's being repaired. For a rental car, while an auto policy may cover damage and/or any claims resulting from use of the rental car, it will not cover the rental car company's damages for loss of use (i.e. having the rental car out of circulation while it is being repaired). The rental car company is not an insured entity under the personal policy. |
| It's when they can't rent the car bc you damaged it. I had an incident and damaged a rental car and enterprise tried to charge me thousands in loss of use fees. My insurance company has a contract with them that prevents enterprise from charging it. My insurance company breached out. Basically in exchange for sending customers to Enterprise after accidents enterprise can't charge customers for loss ylof use. Talk to your insurance company and make sure they have an exception. I love in Maryland |
| I had to get a rental car because someone damaged my car and enterprise was where my insurance sent me. I damaged that car in a parking garage and enterprise tried to charge loss of use fees |
