I will be getting a rental car next week when I fly out to visit a friend of mine. My insurance says I am covered like driving my own car except "loss of use" coverage. I thought I read it somewhere that the loss of use is a questionable charge and the car rental companies do not usually fight if you contest it. Wondering I should get it or not. Thoughts? TIA
Isn't loss of use for when you can't drive your own car because it's being repaired, like from a collision? Why would you want that for a rental car?
NP. Yes, loss of use is when you can't drive your own car because it's being repaired. For a rental car, while an auto policy may cover damage and/or any claims resulting from use of the rental car, it will not cover the rental car company's damages for loss of use (i.e. having the rental car out of circulation while it is being repaired). The rental car company is not an insured entity under the personal policy.
