I'm Looking to buy a mid-century or contemporary home in DC or close-in- where are they?

Anyone know where to look? I never noticed before how traditional the housing stock is in this city. Are there any modern architecture lovers/owners out there? How did you find your house?

look for communities designed by Charles Goodman. Hollin Hills in Alexandria is the most famous, but there are others, Carderock Springs and Rock Creek Woods. This blog is a great resource: http://moderncapital.blogspot.com/

Hammond Woods in Silver Spring is another Goodman community.

Tulip Hill and Mohican Hills and environs right at the end of Massachusetts Ave. Easy commute.

There's one for sale in McLean right now, just hit the market--very modern. What's your price range? (There are actually 3 on the market right now).

I'm looking for contemporary as well, so I'm pretty up on what's out there in certain areas.

There are some contemporaries in Mantua in Fairfax and Truro (Fairfax or Annandale I think).

There are some in Chevy Chase. Rockville, Potomac, Silver Spring). You might want to work with a real estate agent to help you find them. I've been to plenty of open houses of these type of houses.

Can someone put up a link to a contemporary or modern home? I know nothing about architecture, but now I'm curious.

Michigan park, DC!!!!!!!!!!!!! We live in a mid-century modern home and there are tons of other homes just like us nearby. Actually, the moderncapitol.com guy keeps corresponding with my husband about doing a post on our neighborhood.

As an added bonus, the neighborhood is very safe, very friendly, and just lovely. The city plans to redo Rhode Island ave and put in light rail (similar to what's happening on H street) and you can check out all of the plans online.

The reason I'd be so happy if another DCUMer moved here is that there aren't so many kids here ---- we have to travel a mile or so to Brookland for playgroups, but that is changing!

Michigan park resident here. Rock Creek Woods homes are really beautiful. We looked at three of them in the past. If you go during cherry blossom season, you'll buy! (we very nearly did). It was a bit too far out for us, but it was lovely. I might have my husband check out this post and make some suggestions.
