Please help me understand house league age groups

I am seriously not trying to be dense but where would a 2009 October birthday be? And a May 2011 kid be? Any chance they can be in the same age bracket?

Also, they have never played soccer before. Is it too late to start? They’re interested and just want to have fun but also don’t want to feel badly about themselves. This is for girls.

Oct 2009 = U13
May 2011 = U11

Not in the same age bracket.

Each birth year is its own age bracket. All kids born in 2009 play in the same bracket no matter which month. 2011’s play in a different bracket. It’s not too late to start. There will be other players who haven’t played before.

That being said, it’s not unheard of to have younger kids play with an older age bracket especially in a house/rec league in order to pair siblings together. 2011 might be too big an age difference to play with 2009’s as some of the kids will be 2 years older. Depends on if your child is bigger or more mature for their age. You could check with the league.

Our house leagues use the school calendar for age groups.

Which house league? I’m just dreading putting a newbie rising 6th grader with 7th graders when all she wants is to either be with her sister or possibly kids she may know from school.

SYA

You can check surrounding leagues and see what they are doing as well, good luck!

I assume house league is the same as rec league? Most of the ones around us (DC & NOVA) are by grade. Some have additional limits like “4th grade AND born after 6/1/2010.

travel leagues are by birth year

Ball meet feet. No matter what league you put them in, have them practice on their own time with the ball. Most important thing.

VYS allows kids to play with their school grade (in House).

For a league with a combined U11-12 age group, they could play together on the same team. Ours goes by mostly by school grade so the 2009 would be u12/6yt and the 2011 would be u11/5th.

Do you know which leagues do this? We are open to a variety of locations in FFX

MSI uses school grade if you're in Moco or DC.
You might get a range of kids 18 months apart or more. Your younger child could "play up" with the older child with her sister's grade.

I know fall 2009 kids playing with a 2011 kid on the same team. It's a 6th grade team. The 2011 kid is a 5th grader.

Where? That’s exactly this situation- rising 5th and rising 6th sisters who want to play together. I’m in FFX
