I just watched this news report [https://youtu.be/XvpMgWSZ4Qg?t=407] and it is alarming that this collapse happened. The couple had been complaining to DCRA for years and as as recently as a few months ago. There is footage of the DCRA Director finally on the scene. I hope that 10Square's owner Beck Vissat pays for what could have been a much worse outcome. The problem of course is that 716 Kennedy St LLC will just go bankrupt and 10Square will change its name to Dodged A Bullet.
I'm outraged that DCRA allowed this to happen. Something has to change! |
| It sounds like they were doing repairs. |
| It's infuriating. Both that this happened and that the mayor and the the council have nothing to say. |

During the election just last year, Janeese Lewis George pledged that "developers can’t keep coming before our families".
https://www.janeese4dc.com/meet-janeese/ Now that she is in office and a developer literally destroyed one of her constituents homes and directly displaced two families, she says that the "[displaced families] need support from our community" but nothing to say about the developer. Hmmmmm. |
| DC needs to stop coddling scumbag developers |

Huh? The people at 714? No The new building was attached to theirs. |
No. This thread is about DCRA and a sad lack of accountability, bad developers, unskilled builders. |
She may be waiting for the facts to come out, to be fair. I hope so. |

Headline is misleading or premature. The mayor is right. DCRA was not called in to inspect quality. Shouldn’t they monitor that though? I understand the system is imperfect but we have to do better than rubber stamping licenses and issuing permits based a bare minimum or possibly no standard. |
Ok, but what if we had a council member who could rally up a mob to do justice. Yeah! /sarcasm |
| D.C. does virtually no oversight of developers. |
She has not made a public statement at all regarding the building falling down. Even something as mundane as “that shouldn’t happen” or “I’m concerned that this family alleges that they made complaints to DCRA and I pledge to get answers” or even the classic support for an “investigation”. She has only commented about the status of the displaced families. You can say what you want, but when god came calling she was found wanting. |
Not to keep harping on this, but even Bowser could issue the normal and expected political response: “Obviously something like this is very troubling.” https://wtop.com/dc/2021/07/dc-officials-no-violations-at-site-of-nw-house-collapse/ |
