Do you ever have writers block and read DCUM instead?
Tell me about your house and what you're looking for and I will shop for you. Or tell me your decorating dilemma and I will tell you what to do about it. If you don't post a budget, I'll assume expensive is fine. I promise my house looks really nice! People are always commenting and asking me for the name of my decorator (it's me). |
I need a comfortable reading chair that stands well alone design wise for a starkly minimal modern room. |
I need coordinating lighting for our new open floor plan house -- a chandelier/overhead lighting for a dining area, 3 pendant lights over the island, and an overhead light for the entry way. The cabinets are an espresso color with matte silver-ish pulls, the counters are a cream/brown granite, the floor is a medium/light wood. Style is traditional/transitional/simple.
I hate what is here -- the dining area chandelier looks medieval, the pendants and hall lamp are sort of modern. Thanks! |
Okay this isn’t really shopping but I need window treatments for our main floor for a bit of privacy. I love floor length curtains but many of the windows are right above vents that go right where the curtain would go!
Also I need a bathroom vanity that is maybe 48 inches and has drawers instead of cupboards. We are keeping the bathtub which is one of those cast iron corner ones from the 1940s. My style runs more simple but the home is more traditional with a lot of charm. I am soooo stumped. This thread is awesome, by the way. |
Two options: https://www.1stdibs.com/furniture/seating/armchairs/moroso-longwave-armchair-leather-diesel-living/id-f_16414911/ It also comes on a swivel base. Wegner queen ox chair: https://hivemodern.com/pages/product9094/ej101-queen-chair-hans-wegner-erik-jorgensen |
I love this idea!
I want: 1) a nice black frame mirror less than 21" width for my basic white half bath. It currently has an generic builder grade oval frameless mirror that you see at Home Depot/Lowes. 2) matching chandelier for a dinner table that sits 6 & foyer light - contemporary, not modern, not too traditional, not farm house style. Thanks! |
Need a dresser for my 7 year old girl. She already has white bookshelf, desk, and bed frame. I painted a side table and bookshelf chalk paint pink. He walls are a bright blue. Budget $500ish. |
I need a long leather couch that is not “too blocky” or boring, coordinating chairs with navy in them, and something for the wall. Not too expensive, while thing under $5-$6k. |
DP — but I have the problem with vents below the curtains, and I got something like these. They’re pretty unobtrusive — the curtains hang nicely on top of/ behind the deflector, and it’s better to direct the air out into the room, anyway (the air blowing straight up was causing condensation on the outside of the windows). https://www.walmart.com/ip/Deflect-O-50-PRM-Air-Deflector/16645261 |
Okay this is going to be for inspiration only because the most important thing here is scale, and I can't know how big you need these to be. Measure, measure, measure. If you look at Emily Henderson, I think she has some rules of thumb about how big ceiling fixtures should be based on the size of the dining table and room. Your ceiling height is really important for the entry. Etc. I'm thinking maybe bronze would be good for you? I think in most cases I would vote for just converting them to recessed lights. I think somewhere in House Building School there was some sort of demon who was all, REmove the wall! Put in a peninsula! OVER THE PENINSULA THERE SHALL BE THREE PENDANTS. https://www.1800lighting.com/visual-comfort-and-co.-kelly-wearstler-melange-6-inch-led-mini-pendant-CP152072.html |
I need a rectangular chandelier that’s not too sparkly. It will sit over a mahogany dining room table that seats 10 (44” x 91”) |
I would do the curtains and just keep them an inch off the floor. The vents will be fine. If it's really a problem, get a clear plastic diverter for the vents. I am skipping the vanity for the moment but I will come back if I have time. |
Mirror: This is a funny size, so I think you should go to a frame shop. You can pick out whatever frame you like and they will put a mirror in it for you. Lighting: I'm struggling with "contemporary, not modern." Can you be more specific? |
The white IKEA Hemnes dresser, for sure. Use the extra budget to find some fun knobs for it. https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/hemnes-8-drawer-dresser-white-stain-00318598/ |
I need a new chandelier for our open foyer.
Floors are medium brown wood in a very matte stain. Black iron spindles. Paint colors are light blue/grey with a smattering of darker greys and blues (Hamilton Blue) throughout the main level. We have a bold geometric wallpaper above the chair rail in the dining room visible from the foyer. Chandelier should be silver/chrome or clear/white (no golds/bronzes) to match other lighting. I'm also always on the lookout for some new art. I like larger pieces with serious style. Thanks! Fun idea to scratch your interior design itch. |
