Hi all- it’s clear now that our daycare is not making any changes to the mask policy even when MD lifts the childcare mask requirement starting July 1. That’s their decision but I’m getting a bit agitated and concerned about the kids having to wear them outside. What are other daycares doing? My understanding was that MCPS had a heat policy of some sort- like the kids could take off their masks when temperatures were above a certain temp- maybe 80? That seems like it would be a reasonable compromise. Just curious what others are doing before I propose something like that to the director. |
I'm also interested in hearing what others are doing! |
Where is the link of md lifting up the mask at childcare? Any update for montgomery county childcare mask policy yet? |
https://montgomerycountymd.gov/covid19/face-coverings.html Our daycare is following the county recommendation, masks at all times except eating and nap time. ![]() |
Im a director at a preschool and are still following the mask policy recommendations, but not outside at all. The kids and the teachers can get heat related illnesses very quickly and I wont let that happen under my watch. |
You know kids wore masks outside at daycares/camps all last summer, right? My kids did and were fine. You can breathe through the masks, that’s the point. |
Great! And now my kids can breathe easier and not be overheated! Preschoolers can’t regulate their body temperature as well as older kids. Not looking for an argument, but the people in my school are very happy that their kids can play outside unmasked. |
such a stupid policy. this is going to result in kids having to spend more time indoors because being outdoor masked in the heat is unsafe. great way to reduce covid risk, more indoor time! |
What did you do last summer? I don’t understand all the hand wringing on this. |
First off, not many kids were at camp because of the pandemic, and second, they were sweating and uncomfortable. Now they’re not. |
Read above, even that poster said masks outside were stupid. |
At most day cares, they have AC indoors. |
It’s daycare. They are not outside all day. The kids will be fine with mask outdoors for short periods of time. |
Over eighty degrees they don’t wear them at my kid’s school. So, basically all summer.
I am thrilled. |
Does your child's daycare not have air conditioning? Mine has been in daycare since July last year, wearing a mask indoors the whole time and it hasn't been an issue. Not sure why it would all of the sudden be an issue this year? |
