| Seriously? And this, too, is supposed to just be tolerated? Or is anyone working for DC actually acknowledging the problem and working to end it? |
| Probably ranting too urgently to be clear. I refer to the summer night amateur "fireworks" issue. Last night the bangs were really loud and sounded like a new kind of explosion. I see I wasn't alone in noting this: https://www.popville.com/2021/06/big-bangs-loud-explosions/ |
| Enforcing would only result in young black men and boys being incarcerated. Totally not worth trying to crack down on for the city. |
|
I just assume that it’s someone setting off fireworks in a dumpster.
Your best efforts are to pray for two weeks of heavy rain from 9pm - 4am beginning today. Get your neighbors and local religious communities to join in. This is a little prayer I like to say at this time of year: A Fourth of July prayer: Now I lay me down to sleep I pray that rain comes down in sheets So that those with fireworks go away And let me rest for tomorrow's workday. 🇺🇸😴🇺🇸😴🇺🇸😴🇺🇸 |
| The greater DC region has the most fireworks, amateur or otherwise, I have ever heard in my life. We have a fan and play white noise. |
Why do you want young black men arrested? Are you a giant racist, or just a regular racist? |
|
I wish OP would calm down enough to explain exactly what she's ranting about. I live in the District and am not sure what "nighttime explosions" she's referring to.
Is this a 4th of July fireworks type of thing? If so, bring it on! I love the 4th of July and think it's great that people celebrate all week. |
|
How do you know these are fireworks and not gunshots? Its usually a tossup for DC.
|
Damn. That was a huge leap. One can want fireworks going off at night to end AND not want Black men arrested AND not be a racist. All three of these things can exist at the same time. Why is YOUR assumption that the only way to end this problem is to arrest people? Where does OP say that? |
|
I love the new people to the city that are chiming in saying, "oh it's the 4th of July, just let things be". This is a DC summer thing that starts around the 4th of July and goes all summer. It is not a few bangs and then over. Some people, not me, get genuinely disturbed by the randomness.
But the police will never arrest anybody concerning the explosions because of the demographics involved with those entertained by blowing things up all summer. It is simply not worth it. |
This. Illegal fireworks are THE MOST American thing people can do to commemorate Independence Day. The very essence of it - the rejection of Authority and embracing your freedom to do as you wish despite a government saying you’re not allowed to - is the core principal this country was itself founded on. Rebellion is in our national-DNA as Americans. |
One might ask why young black men can’t be more considerate of their neighbors? Pretty racist yourself to hold them to such low standards. |
| How the heck does one know the race of people who are shooting off fireworks? That’s beyond ridiculous to assume it’s just one race. |
|
Blowing things up and setting things on fire in an urban area is dangerous. It's dangerous for these boys and dangerous for innocent people nearby, and damaging for property.
It is ridiculous that anyone should make excuses for this behavior. I don't care who these boys are. The city has no business tacitly encouraging their misbehavior. |
I kind of agree with this! And I never wear masks, either, just FYI! |
