Um, what are you talking about? The newbies are usually the complainers. I'm a DC native and it's tradition to me. I don't participate in any of the illegal ones, but we set of lots of the legal ones and enjoy seeing others throughout the neighborhood. Most of us are used to it. It's definitely crazy the days surroounding the 4th, but it's really not all summer except sporadically.

I've been here 20 years but in my experience, there have been many things DC natives have needed to hear about the arse-backwards small southern town they pretended was a city until things got a bit more cosmopolitan recently. Tolerating quality of life crimes again is a huge step backward.

Fireworks outside of professional displays were illegal in the much bigger city I grew up in. I just don't get the tolerance for dumb yokels setting off explosives in the alleys here. It's not cute at all.

Just do a search in these forums. People complained about the same thing last year lasting all summer into the fall and we blamed it on the activism post Minnesota.

Yep, where I grew up it was young white rednecks who were out blowing things up with fireworks. That's where the expression, "hold mah beer" came from.

The DC explosions are set off by the same types of people, who just have a different skin color.

Although, I'm in MoCo and it seems like rednecks of all ethnic backgrounds here likes to set off illegal fireworks as much as humanely possible during the month of July.
