A national Jewish organization based in NYC has threatened to file a complaint against FCPS with the Department of Education, pointing to FCPS’s inaction in response to anti-Israel comments by a School Board member and anti-Semitic incidents at Robinson Secondary and other schools in FCPS. Brabrand really should be looking for a new job now.

And when FCPS had trouble with the NAACP they decided to form a coalition and work on the prom together. I suspect that will happen here. |
Not really. They only formed that coalition because after the George Floyd incident there was a lot of support in the fight against anti black racism. Prior to that, the school board was paying the NAACP no mind. |
| The environment at Robinson seems exceptionally toxic for Jewish kids. |
| Zionist =/= Jewish. |
| Can someone fill me in on/point me to what happened at Robinson? |
It's in the letter that's linked at the end of the link in the OP above. |
Huh? What is Brabrand supposed to do when a board member does something? You do realize that it’s the board that is HIS supervisor, not the other way around. As for the incidents at schools, what evidence do you or this organization have that these incidents were not investigated and responded to appropriately? |
The letter lays out how the Robinson principal ignored parents reporting blatant anti-Semitism. |
| I don't condone Hamas' actions. Israel, however, is an apartheid state. This also started because Israel tried to evict Palestinians during Ramadan from homes they'd lived in for generations. Israel is entitled to defend itself, but leveling huge building with no regard to the loss of civilian life is unconscionable. Hamas is a terrorist organization and Israel violates international human rights laws with impunity. Hamas being bad doesn't absolve Israel of its own atrocities. In this country, any criticism of Israel is viewed as antisemetic. This is largely why Israel continues to do things like evicting Palestinian from their homes, building settlements, and doing other things that make a two state solution difficult to achieve. This doesn't serve Israelis or Palestinians well. |
To be fair, it doesn't sound like the teachers and principals at the other named schools did anything about it either. It's not a problem at just one school, although I do think it's interesting that Omeish went to Robinson. |

It would be cool if this discussion didn't devolve into yet another debate on Israel/Palestine.
With that said, I'd like to see the social media posts in question, but nothing that ZOA quotes here seems sanction-worthy to me. A private citizen thinks that the actions of a foreign government are reprehensible. News at 11. I also think that conflating "criticism of the actions of the Government of Israel" with "generalized antisemitism" is a dangerous game and one that ZOA ought to think twice before perpetuating. |
| And Madison? Didn’t they have an issue with swastikas on band lockers #KKKlassy |
| Ugh. Antisemitism was certainly present at my big box FCPS intermediate school back in the 90s. |
