National Jewish Organization Threatens to File Complaint Against FCPS

The current environment, with an emphasis on wokeness, is, oddly, very treacherous for Jews. For decades, most of Fairfax County (with certain exceptions such as Reston) was an awful place for Jews to live.

I just can’t see the stuff about the school board going anywhere. However, the allegations about the school sound horrifying. That’s where DOE and lawsuits can come in, if warranted.

ZOA is a far right political organization affiliated with the Republican Party.

Looks like right wingers are off stirring up culture war again.

Right. I think they do a disservice by conflating these issues.

* No child should be subjected to racial/ethnic/religious slurs. That needs to be handled by school administration, or by FCPS Central if the school administration is not responsive.

* If enough kids are out on YK and RH, FCPS really needs to consider making those holidays the way they are in MCPS and other nearby districts. If YK and RH continue to NOT be days off, teachers should ensure appropriate accommodations.

* School board members can say what they want on their private social media, particularly as these comments are not aimed at groups of PEOPLE, but rather at GOVERNMENTS

DP. This discrimination complaint against Stanford (by a professor about DEI training) is an example of the bolded.

Leading with the stuff about the school board, Israel, and Justice High graduation was unwise. Voters can determine whether that is what they want and vote accordingly. The allegations about antisemitism, however, are shocking and troubling. If the school system does not investigate them thoroughly and take appropriate action, I suspect that many Jewish families in Fairfax will believe that can’t get fair treatment and will move elsewhere. They’ve seen this movie before.

Read the assertions about what’s happening in the schools.

Hamas is a terrorist organization and Israel violates international human rights laws with impunity. Hamas being bad doesn't absolve Israel of its own atrocities. In this country, any criticism of Israel is viewed as antisemetic. This is largely why Israel continues to do things like evicting Palestinian from their homes, building settlements, and doing other things that make a two state solution difficult to achieve. This doesn't serve Israelis or Palestinians well.

This is entirely beside the point. Omeish’s role on the SB has absolutely nothing to do with Israel/Palestine policy and it’s not an issue that a SB member should be addressing in an official capacity. Anti-Semitic incidents at Robinson or elsewhere are deplorable.

Everyone is entitled to view Israeli policy however they want but that is not a justification for anti-semitism. American Jews are NOT Israelis or representatives of Israel. If you have questions about this I’d be happy to answer them.

The climate for Jewish students seems to be less than optimal.

Brabrand really should be looking for a new job now.

If it is as out of control as this group makes it sound then by all means, yes, a cry for help to the federal government is reasonable.

This was on her private social media, not in her official capacity.

The only people conflating the Government of Israel and American Jews here are the ZOA folks. Anti-semitism in FCPS is a massive problem that needs to be addressed. But a school board member's comments about the Government of Israel on their private FB page are irrelevant.

Did you read the letter? This isn’t about the Israeli Palestinian conflict. It’s about FCPS’ failure to address antisemitism.

All of Omeish's actions are calculated to eventually get a place on the "Squad". She's our very own "Occasional Cortex"!
