Good summary of traffic levels here:
https://bethesdamagazine.com/bethesda-beat/traffic/montgomery-county-traffic-returning-to-pre-pandemic-levels-on-major-roads/ WMATA reports average daily entries of 89k in 2021, compared to 177k in 2020 (it was 626k in 2019): https://www.wmata.com/initiatives/ridership-portal/Rail-Data-Portal.cfm Meanwhile, county politicians dither. |
| Because offices still aren't back to capacity yet. Duh. |
| And folks no doubt feel more comfortable driving in their own cars than taking public transportation. Pretty simple, actually. |
Did you read the article you linked? It says that traffic has NOT returned to pre-pandemic levels. |
| Sorry, but there’s no way it’s returned to pre-pandemic levels. I’ve been commuting from DC to Alexandria since January. It’s not as easy as it was this winter. But it’s definitely not back to winter 2020 soul-crushing levels. |
I read it and it says the opposite? |
| People are still too cautious to metro in and slug I'm assuming. |
| I think a lot of the drivers are the people that are voluntarily returning early. A lot of the people whose officers are still in person optional are the metro riders who are waiting it out. I’ll be back on metro in September. |
"Seems to be gradually returning to," yes. "Has returned to," no. |
| Its easier to drive now then when the traffic is normal so people don't bother with metro. |
Correct, there is traffic, but it is not pre-pandemic traffic levels. |
| That's ok because everyone is going to bike to work (tee-hee) |
Thanks Bill Clinton. Now tell me the definition of “is”. |
None of this explains why ridership is below this time in 2020 on a year over year basis. It’s probably going to be an easy Metro ride for you, unless they reduce the frequency of service which is highly likely once pandemic funds run out. |
As a prior Metro rider, I will only be going to work 2 days and week and will be driving those days. Thankfully I have a lot of different ways I can go and don’t need to take a freeway. So Waze will be my guide. |
