What car do I need?

My Subaru Forester just died at 40k miles. NEVER AGAIN. I’d like something similar budget and stats, maybe slightly larger. I have two little kids. What is the right car for me?

Likely went too long between oil changes because I was way under on miles. Don’t do that in a Subaru!

How long was too long?

Cars are meant to be driven. 40k miles in 6 years isn't much. It likely sat unattended for long periods of time beyond oil changes.

Op you asked a question though that no one is answering. I'd consider A Mazda if I were you.

Subarus are pretty reliable so not understanding how it died at 40k miles. Have you considered a minivan?

Was it leaking a ton of oil? Have you talked to the dealer?

How could it have “died” at 40k miles? Do you just mean it broke down and had to be towed? What is the diagnosis?

Rod knock. It is actually still ok for now but I’m getting rid of it ASAP.

Unless you literally never gave the car oil, I’d reach out to Subaru and let them know. In the future make sure you’re changing the oil at least every six months if you’re under the required mileage.

Then get a Toyota.

So by “died” you mean “is making a noise because I did not change the oil.”
