Should I get my personal training session back?

Anonymous
I transferred from NY. Scheduled a personal training session through the app for 8 am on Saturday. I arrived at the gym at 7 am only to find out it opens at 8 am. This means I wouldn't have time to warm up! I guess I could have warmed up in the parking lot? I spoke to the trainer on Thursday and he didn't mention any issues with an 8 am session. In NY I was told I needed to come at least 30 minutes early so I could warm up.

Of course not. You scheduled the appointment. You pay for the time you scheduled. What is it with entitlement these days?

How was I supposed to know they open at 8 am? I relocated from another state. How was I supposed to warm up? I think the app, the trainer and LA fitness is at fault. We're required to warm up before the session.

Some clients would prefer to warm up pre-opening to get the earliest possible slot. You’re acting as if any idiot would know you need the gym to be open for warm up but lots of clients want the very first window available and figure out warm up on their own time.

Unless the opening time posted online is wrong you need to adjust your attitude. You’re the one who failed to check.

Why did you ask, OP?

How about asking to warm up for a few minutes at the beginning of your session or, as you acknowledge, you can warm up outside.

The trainer is reporting for the time at which you engaged his services. That is what you paid for. And you have to pay for it.

Yeah, no.

Also my PT always wanted me to warm up before hand but said most people don’t.

Many people warm up DURING their session with the trainer, especially at big box gyms. It’s not efficient, but there was no way for the trainer to know that you wanted to be there early to warm up on your own.

I’m a trainer. Part of your training session should always include a warm up. You don’t need to warm up on your own.

You guess you could have warmed up in the parking lot ?

You mean you didn't? What did you do for that hour?

A full hour before isn't a warmup. Plus if you planned to do it that way, you could easily have checked on the website for opening times. You sound like an ass.

Run in place for two minutes.

You are insane.

And since it’s not obvious to you, NO, you shouldn’t get your session back. The trainer was there exactly when you asked him to be there.

OP here. Of course you guys go crazy. Such hateful people.

My trainer in NY would get mad if I didn't come in before my session to warm up. I got in the habit of doing it and I thought it was required. Everything I read online says warming up is absolutely necessary. Maybe I should have checked to see when the gym opens. I don't know. I was shocked it opened at 8 am. I used to gyms opening super early.
