Why aren't some people who believe in hell worried about it?

Anonymous
When you believe that millions of people could suffer forever, how are you able to go about your daily life and not worry about them?

And why don't more people who believe in hell try to convince others to convert, if they believe that practicing their religion is necessary to enter heaven?

I know nice people who care about others who are suffering today (are involved in volunteering, for example) and also believe in hell, without it seeming to bother them. They're people who are open to talking about religion. We've had conversations where the topic of hell has come up with them mentioning it first, and they seem very nonchalant about it, not in a joking way.

I also know people who are deeply concerned about the possibility of others suffering in hell, so I'm not saying that all people who believe in hell are this way.

By the way, if you personally believe in hell, I'd especially like to hear your thoughts.

You’re essentially asking why I, as a believing person, don’t worry God is wrong and exercising poor judgment.

Why do you think that it is moral for people to suffer forever, assuming that they didn't cause that much suffering in their lives? I'd genuinely like to understand your perspective.

Also, do you think that believers have a moral obligation to try to convince others to convert?

You’re assuming not only that I believe in Hell, but that I believe souls go there merely for not converting to my religion. Since that is not what I believe (and would think that was poor judgment and a mistake by God) I don’t worry about that.

My aunt and uncle are Jehovah’s Witnesses and do believe that and work very hard to convert people.

Thanks. If you feel comfortable answering, what do you think God will send people to Hell for, and why is eternal punishment appropriate for people who didn't cause eternal suffering?

By the way, my understanding is that Jehovah's Witnesses don't believe in Hell--instead, death for people who don't go to heaven or live forever on Earth.

I don’t think about it. As I said twice now, I think if Hell were wrong it would be a mistake of God’s. I don’t believe he made a mistake so I don’t worry about what “scorecard” he keeps for those decisions.

You’re right about JWs. I just meant they think conversion is an important thing and a worthy life’s work because conversion is outcome-determinative.

Not about this question

This is simple and silly question OP. We are Americans. No Americans can possibly end up in hell. We are the most God loving people on the planet. We will all go to Heaven... It will be like living in America.

Because they only really care about themselves.

Because they instinctively know there really isn't one?

I don't think about heaven or hell because I just believe in God or a higher power. I'm down with Jesus, too. He clearly existed, but to what extent, I don't know. Sometimes I feel as if I'm an imposter. I doubt myself. From a very young age, I never believed in 3rd party access to God. I think of God often, not deliberately though. I think I'm a few religions rolled into one, also not deliberate.
