What's the best thing to get a gift card to?

Dealing with end of year teacher, coach and other gifts. Are there any DC centric/local business/umbrella organizations to buy a gift card to that aren't Amazon or something really corporate? One of the restaurant groups? Does Union market offer a generic gift card that can be used at any vendor? Does City Center DC?

Best gift card? A gift card for money.

Cold, hard, cash. Or credit.

Even if it is 750 dollars plus? I'm consolidating for a teacher and overwhelmed at what I've gotten

Yup. She can buy a new laptop. Or phone. Or who knows what she needs, pay a medical bill or buy medicine. Explain it’s a consolidated gift since it is so larger but truly $750 that is very kind.

Olive Garden, TGI Fridays. Both of those are great and tasty.

Yes. I’d be thrilled to get a visa or Amex gift card in that amount that I could use flexibly. I can’t think of an alternative that would be better than having flexibility.

Please don't give the teacher a $750 restaurant gift card.

And skip the cute stuff and flowers. Frequently I’ve seen the summary of our contributions and it goes for a gift card, flowers and some cutesy gift. Stop buying the other stuff. Give them the money. Visa gift card or even Amazon. I know some posters here don’t like amazon but I don’t know anyone IRL.

It is okay to give cash. I bet the teacher would appreciate it.

I’ve gotten a Visa gift card before and it was too hard to use. This was years ago so check if people are still having problems accessing the full balance.

My go to is Target gift cards. Can be used on groceries, electronics, furniture, books, school supplies, etc.

Agree on not wasting money on flowers, candy, anything personalized with your kid’s photo, mugs, lotion, etc.

In most districts, it is against the ethics policy for teachers to accept cash. Definitely not hundreds of dollars' worth of cash.

For $750 I would not want a local or even a restaurant gift card. That's so much! Only at Amazon or Target could I spend that much money.

Just do the Visa or AmEx gift card. They can use those at target and amazon and anywhere else. Don’t do a store.

Visa and Amex gift cards are hard to use. Do Amazon or Target.

LOL. What? Why are they hard to use? You literally use it like a check card or credit card. Literally. Everywhere.
