I haven't had a BK burger since I was a kid, in NYC. Road tripping this weekend and needed to stop to feed a hungry kid and ended up at the drive through. Got the kid a cheese burger and there was mustard on it.
DH claims there was always mustard on a BK burger. I'm SURE there wasn't because I can't stand mustard - I would remember if it was standard to use it. Is it a regional thing or was it only added in more recent years? |
| You’re probably remembering the Whopper or Whopper Jr, which never had mustard. Their “regular” cheeseburger does have mustard. |
| Never mustard. That was a gross McDonald’s thing. I was a picky kid, and I never had to say “hold the mustard” at BK. There may have been mayo and ketchup on a BK in the NY area - I would not have necessarily said “no Mayo”. |
+1 |
Back when I frequented BK in college, I recall my standard order was “Whopper Jr, no pickles, no mayo”. I hate mustard on burgers and it’s a major reason I went to BK instead of McDonald’s. |

Op here... interesting. I guess my standard order WAS a whopper, so maybe that's why I don't remember mustard?
I also don't remember mustard at McDonald's but I didn't eat there very often either so my memories of that are even fuzzier. And maybe I ate nuggets there. |

The whopper Jr. never had mustard. That's why I would order it as a kid. I'd avoid the regular burger and cheeseburger because of the mustard. |
Mustard not on Whopper. Was always on cheeseburger. Don't overthink this and try to move forward. |
| Their cheeseburgers always had mustard. I grew up in California and have clear memories of wiping it off before eating. We preferred McDs because the mustard was less overwhelming (why we never just ordered without, I don’t know!) |
| Definitely on cheeseburgers, and I love / loved it. |
+1 I love mustard though and always added more |
| It's regional, I think. I live in NY and have never gotten mustard on a BK cheeseburger. Maybe they do in upstate NY. In New England, definitely. |
| You aways ask what's on it and ask for no mustard. |

What I remember was that both McD and BK both had ketchup, mustard, and pickle. But only one of them had onions. I did not like onions and had to remember to say hold the onions with one of them.
I never ordered a Whopper or Big Mac, just a “regular hamburger.” However I haven’t done that in years. |
No. McDonald’s cheeseburger was burger, cheese, ketchup, 2 sad pickles and 12 cubic onion particles. |
