What’s the going rate for a 13yo mother’s helper? DD has been hired to play with a 5yo for a few hours a week this summer while mom works from home. Duties will include entertaining the kid, plus fix easy lunch (pb&j, cut up veggies, etc.). Dd was asked what her hourly rate is and she doesn’t know what to say so I thought I’d ask here. TIA! |
$10 |
$15. She's working illegally, but she should still get a reasonable wage. |
How is it illegal? Is it her young age?? I would say $10/Hr is low and $15/Hr is pretty high. Maybe 12-13. |
That’s too high. That’s what I pay a high school sitter I leave alone with my two kids. |
$5/hr. She’s a playmate with no actual responsibilities |
I would pay $10-12/hour |
That’s horrible! She is still working (no 13 yr old wants to play with a five year old and keep him/her occupied). I’d pay between $10 and $15 OP. |
That’s laughable. For $10 you can hire a teen sitter for one kid. For $15 you can hire a sitter for 3 kids. $5 — $7 an hour is about right. |
You're cheap, babysitting is $18/$20 an hour. |
Op here, wow, that’s quite a range. I think $10/hr would be max, considering she doesn’t really have babysitting experience. But she does have younger siblings who she plays with, and will clean up after lunch and playing. |
It’s been a while since I used a mother’s helper but I kind of did it by the grade they were in. So 6 grade=$6. By 16, 17 yo - they are ‘mother’s helper’ (We weren’t home overseeing them!) so for babysitting/childcare I’d start paying their age and go up each year through high school. |
I’d say $5 or $6 per hour. |
OP’s daughter is not a babysitter. She’s being urged to come over and play games with a 5 year old and make a sandwich. |
