Is this a good place to go for a weekend with an elementary schooler? Looking for upscale and hanging out by the pool with nice views. Have never been to Charlottesville so any other recommendations appreciated. |
The Omni is nice, because it’s right by the downtown mall and is walking distance to the corner and the University.
Boars head is OK but a little dated. Also check out the courtyard or residence inn I believe that’s on the corner? There’s also a Fairfield and I believe on route 29. Go to Marriott.com for those. Try to stay near either the downtown mall or uva campus/grounds. Further out, the Keswick inn is very nice and they have a lovely brunch. |
This also might be nice.

Thanks, Keswick is still closed. I was looking for the next best upscale option with a pool. |
Boar’s Head is more picturesque, but we preferthe Omni for walkability/proximity. Omni has an indoor and an outdoor pool, but they’re not resort-y with water features and stuff. |
Yes, I live in Charlottesville and we go to boars head to hike. It’s very pretty.
I would not prioritize the downtown mall location anymore because it’s like a ghost town. Thanks to sky high rent, everything is closed. |
I went to Boar’s Head with my teens last spring. It’s nice but not super luxurious. The pool area can be crowded because it’s also used by the club members. The grounds are beautiful but hot and buggy in the summer. The golfing seems to be good. Food is decent, lots of top notch tennis courts. I would go again, since I enjoyed the setting, the tennis and I like Charlottesville a lot, but my teens say it was too boring to go back. If your kids like pools I am sure they will enjoy it. |
^^ Sorry last summer not spring. It was our first COVID trip and some of their facilities were closed. |
We had a fantastic time with our elementary aged kids this spring. Nice, clean room. Heated pool (only one was open). Played pickle ball, had golf lessons and did some axe throwing. Would recommend! |
Wow I thought this was about deli meats |
I was conceived there, I’m told. |
So is this place nicer than a Marriott but not as nice as a Ritz or Four Seasons? The rates are around $350-400. The only thing we'd want to do is trails and pools. Do they offer food service at the pools? |
I was imagining a magical place with awesome all you can eat sammiches. |
It's nice, but I wouldn't consider it upscale and it's only semi-resort-like. If your son is really into sports there are a lot of activities on-site to try, but I wouldn't go to C ville just to spend the weekend AT Boars Head alone. The appeal to me would be the area itself (Monticello, walk/eat downtown, the campus, wineries and other local spots) |
The Clifton may be an option for you OP
