Nanny returning after trip

Anonymous
My nanny is currently on a trip to visit her family in another country that has a decent prevalence of Covid (vaccination has not been implemented like in the US). She is fully vaccinated but I guess the rules to travel there and back are that she needed to show a negative Covid test to get on the flight each way. She is flying back this Saturday night and returns to work on Monday. She does not need to quarantine or test since she is fully vaccinated.

Would you have her return to work as planned less than 48 hours after she returns from the trip or would you have her wait a few days and then get tested even though it isn’t required?

My concern here is that she could be sick and asymptomatic or mostly asymptomatic and pass it along to my unvaccinated kids.

Return to work on Monday.

I'd pay her and wait a few days.

Come right back to work. The vaccines are super effective, and even if she were to be one of the rare few with a breakthrough asymptomatic infection, she wouldn’t have enough viral particles to pass it on.

Which means that if she even was exposed she doesn’t have to quarantine, meaning she does not pass along the virus. But if you really want your peace of mind give her Monday off and have her come back to work when you feel comfortable but be sure it’s all paid.

Fully vaccinated? She can come back to work right away.

Unless she’s coming from Brazil. Then I’d I’ve am fewer paid days off to quarantine.

To anyone thinking OP should have hired an American nanny: we’re going to face the same dilemma when our fully vaccinated American nanny comes back for vacation with her anti-vaccine family in Georgia this summer.

Personally I would pay her and have her test five or six days after her return flight and then come back on day six or seven but wear a kn95 the first few days.

Tons of people work during federal holidays. Entire hospitals, janitors, gyms, community centers, tennis clubs, country clubs, restaurants, etc. Plus, professionals work at home - lawyers for example. I will be working 4-6 hours on Monday.

I'm working 6 am to around 7 pm on Monday, and my usual hours are 8-4.
