Parents: What are you doing for your 2021 HS graduate? What’s the big gift?

I can’t believe how fast this school year has gone by! My DD is graduating and will be off to college in the fall (in NYC). DH and I both work FT jobs and side hustles, and time has just gotten away from us. We don’t have anything planned. We aren’t originally from this area so we don’t have family here or a large social circle. DH’ s sister and brother are coming for the graduation and that’s pretty much it.

We are planning on giving DD whatever the latest Mac book pro to take to college, will purchase when the back to school sales kick in, but what else?

What else is everyone one doing for their graduating HS senior? Big signs in yard? I just feel like this milestone is passing us by.

She is going to college in NYC. I would give her pocket warmers, a cashmere scarf, cool sunglasses and a gift card to Essa Bagels.

Nice necklace or earrings.

College tuition?

Isn't the MacBook Pro enough? Ask what she would like that weekend - nice dinner out, casual bbq at the house, etc.

That is what DD got a year ago. That plus 4 years of tuition room and board.

I'm doing a big (new) bedsheet painted with congrats, ect hung up, did that for my other kids too. She doesn't want a big party so we'll do something with us and the grands (we are all vaccinated).

I'm getting her plane tix to visit older sibling in another state. She's thrilled!

I took my oldest on a weekend trip for a graduation present, and I got my middle child a necklace and earrings.

My youngest graduates in a couple of weeks, and he has no idea what he wants. He said he doesn't want a trip or somehting like a nice watch. He also prefers to take his desktop to campus and doesn't want a laptop.

He's just a really laid back kid. Even his requested post-graduation dinner is going to be very low key. But I hope he comes up with something he'd like soon!

My graduating HS senior is getting a new laptop.

And four years of tuition, room and board covered by Mom and Dad.

Make sure you hold off on all laptop purchases until you get the requirements from the university!

Lots of universities are requiring purchases through them even if you have a brand new one you just bought. They want to make sure all specs are met and the same for everyone.

What ELSE? Really?

Yep.

We don’t have family here either OP, so we don’t have big graduation parties. We have a nice dinner, give cards, and a special dessert.

I have not seen this for either of my kids and the dozens of college tours we went on.
