| I gave my daughter $1400 for her graduation. |
Similar. I will be giving $1000 to be invested on her behalf and $1000 as a gift. |
Why $1400? Is that a significant number? |
| Chances are, first week or 2 of college, DD will want whatever the "it" purse and boots are all the girls have. And it will be $$$$$ |
| So maybe a gift card to Bergdorfs or wherever New Yorkers shop for handbags and boots |
| DS is getting a new laptop, plus we may be buying him a new bike. Plus 4 years of college. It is plenty. |
| We’re forking out over 50k a year in college tuition. I think that’ll do it. |
|
Gift is a $350 item for the sport he plays.
Also doing a medium-sized party at home and a family trip. |
Op here. lolol. This what she first said a few months ago when she got accepted. |

I have a 2020 graduate. I got one of those T-Shirt blankets made at Project RePat. It's really nice and a fun way to use up t-shirts all the way back from elementary school. That was her official present. She didn't use it as a bedspread in college - more as a lap blanket. She'd bring it with her if she hung her hammock between trees. It's a really nice and useful memento.

This thread is giving me hope. This is exactly what I plan to give my DS and I am getting all sorts of grief about it from family and friends. No trip to Europe? No luxury America trip if Europe is off because of the pandemic? No car?
|
| DC isn't graduating this year but I already know what I'm getting them: a huge chunk of their tuition/room/board funded and get to keep the car they're driving in high school. |
Yes, this is the best gift of all. |
You can’t be serious? WhT. What college student cares about this??? |
What college student (especially in NYC) doesn’t care about this? |
