Eight-month-old is a SCREAMER

Anonymous
I can’t take it anymore. Sleep training for naps is impossible because she can scream for a good 30 minutes without a tear in her eyes. Night training is okay although she gets up twice in 12 hours to nurse but goes right back down. Naps are often miserable. Checks make her more angry. Right now she’s tired, fed, dry in a room with black out curtains and a sound machine. Our sleep routine starts the screaming now.

I’m losing my fricking mind here. As I write, she’s been screaming for 17 minutes straight.

I had a screamer too. I decided for my sanity that naps would be taken in either the car or the stroller. I knew they weren't as "refreshing" as sleeping in a crib, but I needed to stay sane. She would also let me hold her for naps, but I didnt want to keep that up.

Sleep training does not work for every kid. By about 2, my screamer turned into a calm, well-sleeping toddler.

How long have you been nap training for, and what is your method? Do you go in after a set period of time? Have you stopped doing checks? DD also cried for 30+ minutes when we nap trained. It took a couple of weeks but since then she goes down for naps like a champ, no tears, no screaming.

Let. Her. Scream.

If you give in, she’ll know screaming works.

Hugs! I had a screamer too. It gets better when the baby realizes it doesn’t work.

My baby screamed for over 2 hours but it eventually worked. Go to another room and watch the monitor on mute.

We did sleep lady for our screamer (who is a sweet and mild mannered middle-schooler now in case you wonder if she’s destined to be a loudmouth like I did with mine!)

Some kids don't need naps. She is sleep trained if she sleeps 12 hours except to wake up to feed. 12 hours is a long time for a little one to go without food. Feed her and problem solved.

Nothing to add except we have 10mo and she is also a screamer. Though she’s fine on naps and goes straight to sleep, she will wake at night and scream for hours. Her stamina is unreal. My first was nothing like this. We are also losing our minds.

My screamer had undiagnosed GERD.

No. There is no such thing as an EIGHT MONTH OLD who does not need naps.

Huh? OP does feed her and 12 hours is NOT enough time for an 8 month old to sleep in a day!!

The problem is naps, idiot, which ALL eight-no th-old babies need and OP clearly wrote that she feeds the baby twice a night. So problem NOT solved.

Why name call. The baby may not need the naps if they sleep 12 hours. My kids were not Napier’s. Not all are.

Pick her up and take her for a walk in her carriage or wear her in a baby carrier... I can’t imagine letting my baby scream alone in a room.
