It’s a very small program within Gunston. Students have their Montessori classes but also mix with neighborhood & Immersion students.

I would join the Gunston PTA Facebook page to ask parents for feedback.

Our experience is kind of old (5-6 years ago) but we found it a very hard transition into high school. (Although it would have been a very hard transition into regular middle school from elementary Montessori.) They just don't prepare the kids for a traditional school format with homework, different teacher expectations, etc. They just believe that the kids are so resilient etc from their Montessori preparation that they can handle whatever.

We also had a very hard time getting the Gunston Montessori teachers to support an ADHD IEP (things like writing down verbal instructions, giving reminders). Their belief (at the time--not sure who the teachers are now or what their attitudes are) was that the Montessori approach can serve all kids and that modifications to the model aren't needed, so if what they were doing didn't work for my kid, they just kept doing it instead of trying something different. We decided not to send our second kid to the middle school Montessori program after elementary (and kind of regret sticking with elementary as long as we did).
