Started IF and craving salt

Anonymous
I buckled down about 10 days ago, committing to IF (16hr fast) and working out 30-60 min each day (shorter on strength days, longer on cardio days).

I have not lost any weight yet (fine, I get it, it’s slow), but I have been craving salt like crazy. I’ll eat a healthy lunch and be full, but not satisfied. But then if I eat something salty, I feel better.

Yes, I’m working out more, but not endurance athlete level/need salt tablets kinds of workouts. And yes, I am probably drinking more water throughout the day, but I can’t imagine I’m drinking enough to cause a salt imbalance?

I appreciate that my lack of weight gain may be connected to my salt/water intake. But has this happened to anyone else?? How did you solve it? I’ve tried chewing gum but it doesn’t help.

Do you have heart of blood pressure issues? If you don't, feel free to listen to your body and eat the salt, just make sure you get plenty of water too.

I have a cup of salty chicken broth in the morning. It gets me through the hours until my first meal.

It is essential that you take salt with some water if you feel like that.
I had to. I suspect you have low blood pressure?

You’re supposed to have electrolyte drinks when you’re fasting. I like this brand:
REDMOND Re-Lyte Electrolyte Drink Mix (Pina Colada) https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B08QTXZY4D/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_JVQ49EZYF9QCKEJ64G1Q?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

I do have low blood pressure. Something like Nuun (which has 15 calories) will, I assume, break my fast? (There seem to be disagreements about this when I google it). I guess I could just drink nuun with lunch. I just didn’t think about needing it since I’m not doing endurance training!

I don't think so. I don't think that is enough calories to break the fast. Unless you do it every half an hour!
I used to take table salt in my hand, a tiny bit, and take some water afterward. You see when people feel dizzy of weak, I used to be told take sugar, which might also be a valid point, but I learned with DS, who was a junior athlete and had this issue to buy Sodium Chloride tablets, he hated Gatorade and similar, and just have him take him. His pediatrician told us to do so. It works like a charm.
Curious though, how low is your blood pressure? I don't meet too many people with low blood pressure? I once had 60/40, but at Wegman's machine. My mom wanted to take me to ER on the spot.
Normally I stand around 90/60, 80/50. Saw a cardiologist for a stress test and he said that is awesome. I am 50. This is just me being curious about it.

Until you get a massive stomach bug. Then you are pretty much unable to get off the bathroom floor until it passes.

Most experts agree anything below 50 calories won't break your fast.

Don't have too many stomach bugs, lucky me! But, I did learn that hard way that on some days IF will make me pass out. One morning I woke up, after a fasting day, and well, I was on the floor! Made sure not to be so stupid after that!
