| Good luck to those who appealed! Does anyone have any feelings of if it will work? I am hopeful but have no idea obviously. I think I put together a good appeal. I included a cover letter of why DD needs AAP and included 5 pages of additional work samples. |
I also mailed it for my child (grade 3.) So I included the letter and 4 samples, since I thought it was a total of 5 pages if it’s a letter (not their own parent referral form.) Anyways, I think the packet is great, but the others have been as well. To me, my center school just doesn’t have space so he won’t get in either way. I’ll be shocked if he does, but I trying. BTW, he had a 99th WISC, Perfect GBRS etc... |
| I applied/appealed for my 5th grader who has been in her local IV classroom since 3rd, advanced math, level III & doing well. Honestly I am not very hopeful at all. |

I don't expect the appeal to succeed for DS. But I've sent it in. And now I don't have to wonder, What if I had appealed...
Third grade will be what it will be. And if he's not admitted into AAP on appeal now, then we'll probably reapply this winter. |
I'm in this position too. GBRS are great. It won't happen, but I'll continue to apply if for no other reason than to just to waste everyone's time. |
PP here. At this point, I am just hoping Honors classes in MS will suffice and she will find good friends. |
Why do you think that? And yes, we will reapply next winter too. And finally get a CogAT at least! |

Should I appeal the fact my kid never received an AAP evaluation even when I requested to her AAP teacher during the application time this year?
Also, as the school never respond to me about evaluating her I went to George Mason and request for a private evaluation WISC-V, should I submit this to the Committee with a letter explaining what is happening. I haven’t found any indication the Committee hears in anything more than the appeals of evaluations but in this case it is not evaluation to start |
The school doesn’t provide evaluations except three standardized tests and GBRS. The appeal time is done and you can reapply next year, hopefully with a better and responsive teacher. |
Sorry, I mean standardized tests.. not “three” standardized tests. Typo. |
What evaluation are you looking for? You are allowed to ask for one re-test on the NNAT or CoGAT but I am pretty sure that happens in the next school year. And you are too late for appeals this year, they were submitted. |
Thinking about this comment and have some questions. 1) Did you parent refer? The in-pool score level was released after parent referrals were due, anyone interested in AAP for their kid should have parent referred since they didn't know the in-pool scores. I suspect that the poster did not parent refer because it sounds like the school did not put together a packet. The school only puts together packets for kids under consideration. Kids are considered in their test scores are in-pool or parents have parent referred. If there was no packet then the kid was not in-pool and the parents did not parent refer. Teachers can refer but that is their choice and not required even when a parent requests a Teacher refer. The lack of the school putting together a packet is not something that can be appealed because the school only does that for kids who are in-pool, parent referred, or Teacher referred. A Teacher doe snot have to refer a child, regardless of parental requests. 2) I am not sure what grade this child is in. The poster says that they requested her AAP Teacher evaluate the child. Is this an older kid who was Principal placed in a local level IV class? Or is the poster confusing the AART and an AAP Teacher? Either way, you cannot request that the AART or AAP Teacher refer a child for consideration. The parents has to put in a parent referral. If the child is in third grade or higher then there is no in-pool scores and a parent or teacher would have to refer for the child to be considered. Teachers do not have to refer a child even if a parent requests it. 3) Is this a new student to FCPS and the parent needed the school to test a new student? I know that the CoGAT was not held this year and the NNAT is normally only used in first grade. I am not sure what FCPS did for kids who were new to the county and did not have CoGAT scores for potential consideration. No matter what the situation is, and I am really confused with what is happening here, the only way to appeal rejection is to have included an application. It sounds like the child did not have an application in for the first round so there is no grounds for appeal. |
Don’t bother wasting your time. The PP is obviously a very clueless parent on how the whole process works. |
| When are the appeal results due? |
| Did anyone call aap office to verify receipt? |
