Should I appeal the fact my kid never received an AAP evaluation even when I requested to her AAP teacher during the application time this year? Also, as the school never respond to me about evaluating her I went to George Mason and request for a private evaluation WISC-V, should I submit this to the Committee with a letter explaining what is happening. I haven’t found any indication the Committee hears in anything more than the appeals of evaluations but in this case it is not evaluation to start
Thinking about this comment and have some questions. 1) Did you parent refer? The in-pool score level was released after parent referrals were due, anyone interested in AAP for their kid should have parent referred since they didn't know the in-pool scores. I suspect that the poster did not parent refer because it sounds like the school did not put together a packet. The school only puts together packets for kids under consideration. Kids are considered in their test scores are in-pool or parents have parent referred. If there was no packet then the kid was not in-pool and the parents did not parent refer. Teachers can refer but that is their choice and not required even when a parent requests a Teacher refer. The lack of the school putting together a packet is not something that can be appealed because the school only does that for kids who are in-pool, parent referred, or Teacher referred. A Teacher doe snot have to refer a child, regardless of parental requests. 2) I am not sure what grade this child is in. The poster says that they requested her AAP Teacher evaluate the child. Is this an older kid who was Principal placed in a local level IV class? Or is the poster confusing the AART and an AAP Teacher? Either way, you cannot request that the AART or AAP Teacher refer a child for consideration. The parents has to put in a parent referral. If the child is in third grade or higher then there is no in-pool scores and a parent or teacher would have to refer for the child to be considered. Teachers do not have to refer a child even if a parent requests it. 3) Is this a new student to FCPS and the parent needed the school to test a new student? I know that the CoGAT was not held this year and the NNAT is normally only used in first grade. I am not sure what FCPS did for kids who were new to the county and did not have CoGAT scores for potential consideration. No matter what the situation is, and I am really confused with what is happening here, the only way to appeal rejection is to have included an application. It sounds like the child did not have an application in for the first round so there is no grounds for appeal.
Don’t bother wasting your time. The PP is obviously a very clueless parent on how the whole process works.
